Depending on the construction of the hole, a drying stick may perform better or worse than a chopstick+microfiber cloth. When I broke my drying stick and had to use a cloth, it dried similarly, but I felt like it was harder to stop the cloth from dragging on the sides. It's hard to determine if it was doing any more damage than usual, but I just like to reduce any amount of non-dick friction as possible.
