I won't be hosting it for a while because there's an expansion for it that's just never been uploaded online, so I've ordered that in the mail and I'm gonna share and host it once it arrives. Anon who had issues last time here.
Believe my issues came from installing Hamachi on another drive instead of the C drive; the network adapter for Hamachi didn't install correctly. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed the adapter issue and let me play without a hitch. You can also manually install the adapter if it continues to give you problems, just google "how to install hamachi driver manually" or something and there's a support page for it. Any problems past that I can't help with sadly.

I've always avoided looking at it because it seemed like a cheap Chinese game. I didn't even realize it had multiplayer, although I can't see what it's like from the store and I'm too lazy to download it even though it's free. Sell us on it

It's a deck building game for the most part. You make decks of 9 units but in game you can only deploy up to 7. Once in game your armies clash as they try to push each other bases, you also participate in the fight as a playable character with your own abilities. If no side wins before the 25th round there's a final battle in which both armies get increased numbers and have one final clash (without the player characters taking part in it). Each deployed unit has two mutually exclusive unlockable abilities that suit different situations or compositions. It has 1v1 and 2v2 PvP as well as 2v1 co-op vs a pumped up AI mode and lastly a half baked PvE roguelike mode.

Now for the cons. It has a lot of characters but you have to slowly unlock them with coins you get by playing the game, however there's a free unit rotation that changes each week. It has a lacking english translation and thus some tooltips are very misleading. No player base whatsoever on the west, so you can't really find matches outside of the chinese or asia region (although I've seen some EU private lobbies)

Silent Hill campaign would be kind of funny. It's pretty long iirc, so it could take a nice chunk of time.
The popular chinese campaigns are pretty fun. I can understand some reluctance to play them though.

No but really, don't bother. Even with all the free characters the gameplay isn't all that exciting and the story is mostly decent but has some hilarious lows. Exploration is the only real fun you'll have with it.

Place the .vpk files in a folder located in the base game folder, left4dead2/addons. Then boot up the game and check the in game addon menu and make sure they're all enabled. If it says something is conflicting, ignore it, it's fine.
I put in Silent Hill per someone's suggestion, Yama, the Japanese map, and a fairly popular campaign called Urban Flight.
Also, Silent Hill is EXTREMELY LONG and has maze like levels, so I'm not sure it'll be everyone's cup of tea, but we can try it.

These are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL, and you don't need them to join the server. Pick and choose which ones you want, because some of them overwrite the same files, for example, you can't use both super kazuya tank theme and touhou tank theme at the same time.

if you make a file called steam.cfg in the base steam directory, and put in the following two lines
BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable

it'll stop all steam updates and it should still work in 2024

I think since your version already had that warning, it'll stay, but it should keep working. I put that into my own install before and it's not showing for me. I've heard people are still on extremely old versions of steam like XP versions and they're still working, so really, the only thing that'll break over time is the shitty extra stuff that you don't need. The library should keep working (theoretically) forever.

I think it's impossible to use steam on XP these days. I tried the offered solutions, but I forget what problem I ran into, but it was an issue that only came about in the past year or two. Something about communicating with Valve's servers I think.
Win 7 should have work arounds for a while though. It's fairly popular because it's decent and doesn't lack support for a ton of basic stuff...

I was going to wait for a while. Last session wasn't as fun because a lot of the maps sucked. If /jp/ wants however, I can try this weekend. I'll just have to try and remember to actually download stuff and test it out too.

A reminder that I'll be doing this yet again tomorrow around 7-8PM EST. If you're a new player I'd highly recommend playing offline and getting to at least Floor B6 or B7 so you can at least unlock some shortcuts since you can't really do story progression online if the host has already done it. If you don't we'll just rush you through the early levels so you can get the gear and survive at the higher levels though.
As an aside, anyone know Japanese and wanna translate the sequel's expansion for nothing but credit? I'm a bit of an idiot and just remembered that it'll need a TL if we want to actually play it properly. If no one can or no one wants to I'll just MTL it and then touch that up so it makes sense, and include the original text as a file in the upload.
