In terms of sales FGO peaked in 2018. They make less than half of what they did back then now.

Obviously mobile games suffer natural decay. they become old and outdated and there's new shiny shit. But with FGO it really is mostly utter and complete incompetence. Their main story release schedule has slowed to a crawl for years and is only getting worse, they've started decreasing the number of events even doing shit like skipping Christmas, they've stopped doing reruns of any kind, they've almost entirely stopped doing things like balance changes, animation updates, or even releasing interlude stories. If they maintain the release schedule they have now, FGO has 6 events a year and one main story chapter.
If it was any other game you'd think EoS has been decided and is coming very soon, but this isn't the case. They're just that bad.

Franchise got bought up in 2017. Current theory is that after having nothing but failures since then the new owners have decided to have one more try and go all in as a cope. They plan to do this by having written support for their new mobile VN engine into the gacha, letting them port the old visual novels into it so that the gacha is the one and only piece of muv luv content you will ever need. If this works they won't have to try selling visual novels anymore because new "VNs" will be released directly into the gacha instead.

They have accomplished this by taking the code for the unreleased mobile ports of the ML trilogy that were a stretchgoal from the 2015 kickstarter and shoving it into the gacha. They didn't bother finishing the code either, when the gacha launches you can't read the trilogy from start to finish, the second half of the final game is missing.

What happened in the new event

One of the girls in HBR is a tiger, as in literally just a giant tiger. The new event is about how she finds a den of wild cats that are having a shit time because the world is overun by aliens exterminating all life, so 3 of the cats follow the tiger and her teammates back to the human base where the tiger has to try and communicate to the humans that the cats want a fuckton of food they can bring back to their den. This repeats a bunch of times with different food items. During the final battle with the alien 2 of the cats rush back with the food while one of the cat stays with the tiger, because the tiger has been blinded so the cat will act as her eyes in battle instead. The cat then stays with the tiger for 2 weeks as she receives medical treatment because it wouldn't feel right to just fuck off. When the cat finally returns to the den none of the other cats remember him because for some reason Maeda thinks cats have memory issues and need constant contact in order to remember others, so the cat is kicked out of the den and fucking starves to death over the course of several weeks. the end.
