Here's how it happened for me.

At some point when I was 60 there was just nothing left to do. Naxxramas (the original, not the 80 version) was too hard for any guild on my server. But they'd been announcing the expansion so I just decided to just hang in there until it came out.

Six months. It took six more months for Burning Crusade to arrive. That's when I also learned that level 68 blues were much better than level 60 epics, so all my work was for nothing.

That's how I was able to get away. Once I had nothing more to do in Burning Crusade, I knew their release dates for the WotLK were bogus (and oh, what a surprise, they really were) and so I was able to quit easily.

I came back briefly for WotLK and quit a few months later. I'd be cutting myself right now if I hadn't.

That's the trick. Think about the crap you've been through because of Blizzard's lies, and you'll have incentive to quit. Once you've quit a single time, it'll be super easy to quit again whenever you want to.

The addiction is completely gone too. I'm not coming back for that new expansion, I'm selling my old account. Once that's done there's no way I'll ever play again, and I can probably get 400 or 500 bucks for it too, hah.

I actually miss WoW.
Of course back when I played, I just hung around 50-59 WSG. After the first expansion, that was pretty much perfect: competitive gear readily available, a great pool of regulars, and a diverse range of builds. It was everything that the rest of WoW should have been.

I've thought about going back, but I heard death knights royally fucked up the bracket. What a damn shame.

online japanese players are generally a lot nicer i found while I played FF14 on japanese servers for a while.

ice spells generally don't cover areas in snow they just make your character a bit chilly.
The only one I can buy is physically incasing a character in a block of magical ice but those spells only last for like 5-10 seconds so it's pretty laughable for a wizard who has supposedly killed literal gods and demon lords in past expansions
