I went and tried LLS extra afterwards. The stage is definitely harder than MS's extra, but as a whole the extra feels a lot more forgiving than MS's. It really shoves lives down your throat (I had 8 misses this run) and Mugetsu/Gengetsu's are less complex as far as bosses go. This took around 5 attempts and it was blind from Gengentsu's 4th pattern onwards. I lost like 3 lives bruteforcing the pre-final pattern since I couldn't figure out what the fuck was going on, but it was a fun time. I might try some of the other shots and jump back to the Windows games afterwards.

It had some good ideas, like graze slowing down items and getting extra graze from following bullets, that got completely overshadowed by the game raining resources on you to spend on bullet cancels that are worth way more point item value than they should be. Hollow Song of Birds Extra Clear
got it after practicing spell cards for a few hours. 3 extra lives stock (they get removed and added to score at the end.)
I probably overpracticed because I thought there were two more spell cards after the last one since there were greyed out cards in the practice menu, but I did manage to capture the last card as a result.

I've known Touhou for a long time but just started playing the game only recently, I chose 06 as my very first experience because it seems to be the...classic? The "must-play"? The one which characters are most popular? The very first Windows game? Idk it just seems to be "the one you just have to play" and it's very challenging for me. I've played my fair share of shmups throughout my life such as Gradius, Salamander, Cho Aniki (lmao bcs why not) but I just can't seem to be able to get past Patchy. Maybe because I've only played less than a month, will keep trying until I finish it in my spare time but one thing that's clearly keeping my interest in playing is the music. I just can't resist banging my head to every single one of the music, what the hell is with ZUN's composition?

>> No.43067203

>>43066792
Well most people who start with eosd usually end up quitting touhou and becoming secondary forever, usually because they can't play it properly. The game might be too fast or have massive input lag, and sometimes it doesn't even launch. But if you didn't encounter any issues, yeah eosd is good especially if you already play other shmup before, the game is straightforward, not too hard, but also not too easy

>> No.43067337

>>43067203
Oh no it works really fine on my device and it's not too fast, so yeah that means I just need to get better lmao
Thanks for the insight, will continue playing till I can finish at least one title, it's a pretty game with otherworldly music so it's worth the time. I remember being total noob at rhythm games and became significantly better after YEARS playing so this game must be the same case

You've got a long way to go before you can 1cc, and you might get tired of the repetition before then.
If you feel like you're getting close to that point, I suggest putting the game on hold and trying LLS (04) instead, it's got a much gentler difficulty curve and it's pretty good at teaching some of the basics.

LLS is generally considered the easiest regular game to get a 1cc on, yeah. Elly is admittedly a bit tricky because of her scythe, but once you figure out how to deal with her she's even easier to beat NBNM than louise (th05 stage 2 boss), in my opinion.

>>43067484
Touhou 7 is even harder than 6 for beginners, people consider it easy because you get plenty of bombs with sakuya but beginners tend not to use them, and the patterns are considerably harder.

Patchouli has different spell cards depending on what shot type you're using.
Try playing with different shots and you might fare better against her.

You get more than enough bombs in eosd to spam in Normal.

Really? Louise is a hair tricky due to that red spinning arrow thing she does in her second or third stage or something, so having Elly be easier than her would be something.

>> No.43067676

>>43067596
Louise's second-to-last pattern, the one with red arrows mixed with blue lasers, is indeed what makes up the entirety of her difficulty.
I've just remembered about elly's pattern with the two streams of bullets which cross into each other (https://youtu.be/xNKyPkQ-_ug?t=327)), that one is also pretty hard compared to the rest and around the same difficulty as louise's hardest pattern, so I would say their fights are about the same difficulty if we consider their hardest patterns only. If we consider the average difficulty then elly is of course a bit tougher.

Getting past the not bombing thing doesnt take that much time. IN is the real bad advice of a beginner game in my opinion. Denser than usual patterns pretty early, a couple of crisscross, not that heavy on the ressources especially in a beginner's hand (3 extra lives based on points before reaching the 4th that you need 800 for, which is easily missable in the hands of a beginner. From a series where people jokingly but not so jokingly remind beginners to press Shift and X, I think it's reasonable to assume PoC can go over many people's heads or even how you get extra lives altogether. Meanwhile PCB gives you 5 extra lives for 450 points), lenient bomb mechanics sure but cool you wasted 2 bombs and IN's bombs are no EoSD Master Spark or modern day Wily Toad (Sanae's bomb).
Regardless of their choice it's a pretty workable ordeal and some of these issues are solved rather easily but these are pretty grounded things a beginner can run into.

I found eosd simple in theory, with a few must bombs (think green books).
The real difficulty is the occasional unpredictable nature (sakuya's knives or old bubble bullet hitboxes), and limited resources.

Alternatively the limited resource and lack of gimmicks makes it good to train good habits for future games as it forces growth in certain skills (reading trajectory, getting a feel for lasers.

It's really neat how you get different patterns when playing different characters. The normal enemies stay the same, right?
Also the difference between easy and normal is way too steep (at least in th6), I'm hoping other games will be a tad more challenging. Something in the middle would be nice. Then again if it's all this easy I'll just go through them quickly and then just pick the easiest normal to 1cc.

The trick is to not try and leave it to the last second. You should be moving to the side well before the two first waves converge, and weave through and then up to loop back in.
For a lot of EoSD, making sure to pace your dodges, and not moving more than necessary is the kay. Get more confident in where the hitbox is, and you'll probably have a lot more success.
But the real trick is practice, though. Once you can get through Rumia by muscle memory, you've done well enough.

The stages are mostly routable, but you can get fucked by UFO movement. Try to make the most of stage 4's 2nd half. With good enough plays you can chain like 3-4 UFO procs in a row and get a lot of resources. The 1 power loss on death is very punishing and can potentially snowball you down to no power, so consider going for green UFOs instead of red ones from time to time to keep you alive for longer.

man imperishable night feels horrible to play with anything but reimu's team on lunatic
>alice's beam is too narrow and is a chore to hit on lunatic
>sakuya's knifes are made out of cardboard and remilla is too fast when focused
>the ghost team i cant remember the names use a peashooter when focused and unfocused is impossible to deal maximum damage unless you are standing still or going down on a straight line

maybe i am just bad but they feel like more of challenge characters instead of just a alternate choice. i guess zun tried to balance them out after sakuya being a powerhouse on cherry blossom.

>don't remember their names
Yuyuko Saigyouji head of Hakugyokurou in the Netherworld. She has one of the best wide shots in the entire series and the other girl has the highest damage in the game.
>standing still or going down on a straight line
here is a trick for you: If you focus you reset her shot to be shooting forwards only. Tapping focus right below the boss can result in some good dmg even if its only 1 second. They are a very fun team!

im just bad with names, i keep confusing yuyuko with yuka from corpse party and i only memorised reimus name on the second touhou game i played. also i struggle to remember if the correct name is remillia or ramilla. and i still struggle to remember the place where the games take place in.

also thanks for the tip i will try that when i play again.

>Is the Reimu fight more manageable/consistent on Normal?
I think it is. Her patterns are faster and a bit more complex but they're not nearly as dense.
You should still try to challenge marisa from time to time, after a while even dense stuff will become easier to wade through, and it makes for some great training in that sense.

The main part of the gimmick is that "Powered by GPT-4chan" signature, the random name is probably just a leftover from the google+ gimmick from a few years ago, since it makes no sense to have it as anything other than "GPT-4chan"

Try playing eratohoTW (there's a thread for era games here on /jp/), it helps a lot with remembering the names of everyone.
