Hi /jp/. I played EoSD for the first time ever about a week ago. That was the first touhou game I ever played. I want to complain about it's difficulty, which felt like this (on normal mode);
level 1 : Meh, is it really that easy? better go get that 'lunatic' thing.
level 2 : Oh, look, I was hit once, big deal.
level 3 : Hey, this is starting to get tricky, that boss is getting on my nerves.
level 4 : Wait, why are there so many bullets on the screen? why am I being killed from all directions?
level 5 : OK WAIT WHAT
TL;DR: I suck and can't get past stage 5 at EoSD

Stage 5 is easier than 4.

Do Practice Mode until you can beat the stage within the two lives it gives you; that's generally a good indication that you've mastered it. It only took me a week of a couple hours of practice a day to go from getting curbstomped by Cirno's nonspells to 1CCing Remilia.

Not really, it's just that PCB has particular moments of boss level bullshit. Youmu's criss-crossing bullet non-spell card usually fucks me up while I'm getting rather good at the rest. The Prismrivers are only bullshit if you are playing someone other then Reimu, with Reimu they just have a few troubling moments.

Yuyuko is deceptively hard, as in there are spellcard where you think she's not as bad as the rest and you can take a break, only for some horrible godforsaken trap card to come about.

My experience with EoSD however is more the first three stages are easy street with you losing a life on something early if you are unlucky/stupid, then suddenly just being harsh all the fucking time. At least on PCB I can rest on the stage segments, I've gotten used to stage 4 so it's just the bosses that fuck me up. EoSD the stages are sometimes pretty bullshit, then you hit Patchouli (easiest of the three but still tough at times), Sakuya (FUUUUUUCK) and then Remilia who is tough, but more because she uses those bullets like god damn shotguns and sprays at shit. I have more trouble with Sakuya and her bouncing knives.

I'd say PCB is the easiest Windows game simply due to the fact you get like 11 lives and 4 bombs for Sakuya, and SakuyaA homes. You can bomb pretty much everything and 1cc Lunatic.

>> No.4300881

>>4300852

These days it's a toss up between EoSD and SA for 'toughest game on normal', I'd move up to hard but lol, each games stage 4-5 rapes me, unless it's like Imperishable Night where you may as well place every difficulty setting aside from Lunatic as one lower then advertised.

All things said and done though, PCB gives you much more then EoSD so it's much easier. I'm not going to complain about the lack of a visible hitbox in EoSD because it becomes a moot point once you've played enough, but PCB gives you a free ride with those cherry borders. It's like a couple free bombs a stage that you can refuse to use as a short term insurance. Only problem is you can't completely control when you get them.

Stage 4 isn't a problem once you've practised it enough times (on at the very least normal ideally). It's a good place to get used to streaming because it's practically all you will do on PCB's stage 4.

I also remember enjoying Shoot the Bullet for teaching me not to hold down shift all the fucking time. There are many times when speed is pretty essential.

Given enough time and practice you start to understand the mechanics of each shot type and how close you can get without actually dying from it. It's like those huge bullets, the edges aren't going to do shit to you but look intimidating to new players. The trick is to get used to how things target you (if they target you at all).

tbh, orin isnt that hard on normal, hell for the fairies you can misdirect them up to the top of the screen then just rush her down with any character, and because it's normal you can merely misdirect again if you dont kill her. 2nd card durrrrr can I move in small circle, 3rd card requires a broad vision and ability to cross over the smaller bullets quickly which is imo the only semidifficult card, last card is merely ring around the rosey. Orin is easy.

In normal utsuho is cake as well, her first card is the only hard one really due to random bullets, but without the 2nd blasts she fires in hard or lunatic at least you can wall yourself trying to get through the path. the flare card just requires reading the blue bullets as the big red ones dont travel fast enough to really wall you like in lunatic, 3rd card is just testing your ability to stare directly into a light bulb while seeing bullets (protip you can no vert it in every difficulty level if you are a badass with your hitbox) 4th card more no vert stuff finding the giant vagina hallway sized gap between the rotating giant circles, last card is a test of your patience as you shoot it until it dies.

When I trained to 1cc SA Lunatic, I practiced until I could do at least stage 1-3 perfectly. In this replay (actually a bad run (first 1cc)), you see that I bombed much more than I wanted and still finished the game with 6 lifes. And if you can get through with this bombing in Lunatic, it surely works in Normal as well.

>> No.4301015

First 3 stages are fine until the actual stage 3 boss. Can't handle her spell cards.

I've made it up to remilia with all continues used and can't imagine at this point to ever completing it with one continue.

The problem with practice mode is that you only have 3 lives. Not much to practice the spell cards without bombs.

MoF gives more bombs, but less lives. I guess MoF is easier on Normal, but PCB Lunatic has a shitload of giveaways (From the top of my mind, Merlin's second noncard, Yuyuko's first, second, fourth noncards and fourth card, Youmu's noncards/Human Realm Sword are things you'll capture 100% without effort. )

SA is outright murderous, especially if you use Marisa.

Im not saying its impossible obviously, by this point I can clear stage five with maybe bombing once or twice and no deaths. It just took countless attempts to get to that point.
