This is all pretty standard fare, or, are we going to bring up that if Megumu is a blue Aya, Hatatae is just purple Aya with twintails? They are different characters of the same species, of course they are gonna look *vaguely* similar. But that's about it. Megumu looks about as different from Aya as Yumeko does from Sakuya. So, not all that similar, but generally a related design.
I have no idea what so say about chimata, she's a new character with a gimmick, if you like the gimmick okay, but if you don't, that's also okay. But she's definately not a gay whatever, because she's a new character entirely.
Tsukasa's pretty interesting, and seems pretty popular, probably the most popular of the cast, Mike's interesting enough, but as a stage 1 boss, nothing too much to read over, as she's not too important to the plot, much like every other stage 1 boss.
I'll fully admit to not liking takanae that much, but she at least makes sense to everything else, which is enough for me to not reject her existence
Sannyo is okay, I don't like her that much, and same goes for misumaru, which I don't like for different reasons, that being she retconns a few things (Maybe?). But Misumaru has the potential to expose a bit of backstory at least.
Overall, the weakest character is Sannyo, but having a pretty weak bosses in terms of story us nothing too new. Did Keine really add too much to the plot of IN? Not really. But her character did get developed later on, and she's now amainstay of the series.
Also, maybe some of us *like* the game, and don't see the point in arguing over something as subjective as "low quality and drunk funk"

Sure there are similarities, but they were never this blatant and uninspired. Even when they were first revealed, they ranged from meh to appalling, and I was hoping that at least the later stages and EX boss would be better, but nope, they're even worse.
Every time someone does art for th18 cast it feels forced, almost as if they're obligated to scribble some doodles because it's a main entry to the series. Compare it to Yuuma from 17.5 who is from a spin-off (ergo, largely irrelevant), yet she was incredibly popular almost from get go because people genuinely like her. Great design, already pre-established background, and fits right in without breaking the suspension of disbelief. This is how you make a new character right there. I wouldn't be surprised if her design wasn't even zun's.
As for th18 cast's concept, it's simple. It's almost as though it was a point to make all of them reprehensible in some way. They all exist to screw you over and ruin your life without having anything to redeem them, even in cuteness which they all sorely lack. Promoting gambling and usury? Promising you wealth and success under false premises and then backstabbing you in the process? Relinquishing the ownership on all of your things?
