I started learning about 10 years ago but didn't progress much. Over time I've seen things get translated much more and faster, and translation software is really accurate now.
I don't want to move to Japan due to the work culture among other things.

So saying “I’m tired” in japanese started a big fight... Today was supposed to be my day of doing nothing to recharge for the rest of the week since Jhusband comes home quite late on weekdays leaving me pretty much on my own with a toddler until the weekend. We already agreed upon our respective re-charge days, mine Saturday and his Sunday, but then he asks me to go grocery shopping as soon as I wake up and I just say I’m too tired to go and I thought today was my agreed upon day to chill.
My “I’m too tired” reply started a big fight. He stated I’ve been saying it a lot lately and his reply was that I shouldn’t be saying this at all and how this phrase is the thing he hates the most. He made it seem that saying “I’m tired” is a put off in our marriage and that typically Jwives don’t do this. I honestly can’t tell if this is a cultural thing or not.
He’s also made comments about how my voice sounds angry and mean when I talk and that I need to “be more cheerful when greeting him when he gets home.” Which feels like some sort of expectation he had for me that I was unaware of until now. My voice is just my voice. In English maybe it sounds more harsh than when I speak in Japanese but like it’s still me.
Normally we have been good but lately I’m so tired by the weekend, I’m not even able to function. I’m having trouble understanding the possible cultural nuances here, if there are any. Or if this is strictly just an us problem. Suggestions and advice happily welcomed.

So the guide in the OP recommends tae kim's guide for learning grammar. I studied kanas previously from other sources (before finding this guide). I started reading it because I want to learn about actual japanese (not just the writing system).
I began reading from the beginning anyway, and took issue with the description of the writing system. There's this confusing statement about the usage of katakana:

This is just confusing, since words aren't "based" on the roman alphabet, since they are utterances, so they are just written with letters. They don't belong to the alphabet but to the language they come from, and katakana is used for all foreign languages, not just ones which use the roman alphabet. And the sentence isn't even true, due to the existence of ateji (though they are apparently obsolete).
Another issue I found is with the description of voiced moras, which fails to use the fact that pretty much all languages have pairs of voiced and unvoiced consontants, including english. And it's generally not very descriptive. I don't know how I'm supposed to know what a voiced mora sounds like from this:

The sections on small ya/yu/yo and the small tsu are similarly undescriptive.
The section on intonation conflates intonation with pitch accent, which are basically antonyms. It also argues that there's no way to learn intonation other than using the language, instead of teaching the dictionary notation for pitch accents, which is better than nothing.
There's also a section dedicated to chinese character apologia, even though it starts by asking why you should learn kanji. The answer to that is simple: you should learn kanji if you want to read what japanese speakers have written and write what japanese speakers can read. Poorly arguing reasons for the system's existence is offtopic. I assume english guides don't start by arguing on why you shouldn't have consistent spelling rules, yet they teach english writing.

What I wanted to ask is, is the grammar guide of better quality? Or should I read something else?
