I'm not a marine, but I am close to some guys that are, and it seems like the general consensus is that they are really cool about stuff so long as you don't let others down where it counts. you go through enough shit in military life, especially marines, that you don't hate eachother for such petty crap. there are also a lot of servicebros who are into anime. this is all from an outsider perspective who is looking in, I'm speaking on behalf of people I know but I think they'd agree.
good luck though man, I could never live like that; I guess I'm just too much of a bitch to put up with the military lifestyle.

I can't speak for the Marines, but I can speak as a USAF veteran. You will get teased about it, it will cost you pussy, you will learn to hide your power level. On the plus side, there will be other people who have the same interest as you, so it won't all be having the Commander ordering you to stop buying some much Gunpla or whatever.

Don't join. Simple as that.

Once you're assigned, do whatever you want as long as it doesn't interfere with your duties. If you find another th/VN fag, awesome. Otherwise, just keep it mostly to yourself. You won't be shunned or anything, but you might lose out on some chances for social things if your interests don't come off as well-rounded.

Well, one of my friends is in the marines and he's asian so none of the marines make fun of him for liking weeaboo shit because he's asian, in fact they ask him about manga and anime even if it is only like Naruto and shit but you know they still might know it. He was playing Touhou 7.5 in his dorm and his platoon members were just watching going "WHAT THE FUCK!!??" in amazement from what he told me. I was in the Army, not the Marines, but considering that the Army seems to be made of the sheer bottom rut of society I suppose it's as good a frame of reference as any.

I found that it's important to keep as much of your power level hidden as possible, like any situation. But it's not so big a thing that if it slips you'll get hounded for it for the entire time you're there. Hell, I got yanked on more for my political views (I'm from California so yeah, pretty liberal)

Just go about things as usual, I would say. If you're even considering the Marines I would assume you can hold a conversation on things other than VNs and Touhou anyway.

yeah, it varies a lot. in my infantry platoon we had a self-taught paleontologist, a former football player, a "suspected" former drug dealer, a navy brat from japan, and a low-level triad type. everyone got along fine. most people join for the job, a few for the money or combat, but there aren't many idealists.
if you can already run 6 miles at a time, you shouldn't have much trouble.

I wanted to join the army, but my mom kept having complete nervous breakdowns whenever I met with a recruiter and tried to join ROTC. I feel like a coward for not enlisting --if other American kids are fighting out there, than so should i too dammit. I'm...I'm more afraid of looking back at this whole 9/11 mess in shame than I am of enlisting and possible getting killed (...or worse. I've helped some vets with wounds so severe it makes me queasy. Life is not fair and everything is total shit).

I can't join becuz it is just too hard on my mom's psyche, so instead I'm studying to be a doc and I'm part of my university's NROTC group.

It's...kinda a solution to the guilt. Sometimes I feel like I'm a part of this effort, but usually I just feel like...like shit for not going all the way and being an infantry officer and really making a difference in Afghanistan or Iraq.
