I'm going to replay Baldr Sky Dive1+2. Last time I played it was the original versions.
I noticed on VNDB that there were some re-releases since. A "masterpiece chronicle" collection which was supposedly updated for win10 and a "Re-price" edition.

I'm perfectly fine with the original version that I even still have installed, but do these releases bring anything worthwhile to update? Even some weapon rebalancing would be nice, since ranged weapons sucked in D1+2 but were updated for Dive X.

Or can I just patch my vanilla Dive1+2?

Your setup is fine. I used quite similar one back in the days and it brought me from being barely capable of remembering kana to being able to read almost without dictionary at all.
I would also suggest to figure out a way to track words you know or have seen numerous times and make it automatically remove furigana for those words. Excellent question. For simplicity's sake, I'm just going to talk about the first Senshinkan game so ignore the second one existing. Both games have a pretty good group dynamics among the main cast or protagonists. This is something I would say Dies largely lacked. While certainly there were a few comradery scenes scattered in there with Shirou, Ren, Kei, etc., you couldn't say it was particularly present. Both KKK and Senshinkan pretty much start off with setting up the "party" so to speak so you always have that 仲間 feeling lurking around. The difference between these two is that KKK verly clearly has a pairing for everyone (4 guys, 4 girls, not exactly a mystery who is for who) while Senshikan is a more "traditional" eroge setting (multiple girls after one guy in a school no less). Masada is a cool guy though and MC friends get some action too. Between the two, Senshinkan is overall stronger on the SOL/character stuff and is actually really funny. KKK is still pretty good on this front though. Habaki's antics were amusing.

On that note, I personally felt that KKK had much stronger heroines overall. I don't mean like in terms of writing, but simply on a pure attractivenes level. Sakuya, Rindou, etc. all get me going pretty easily. Even Ryuusui isn't a bad loli. On the other hand, Senshinkan's heroine power is just a lot weaker to me. I liked Mizuki, but that's honestly about it. And I guess that kind of translated into the H for me because the first Senshinkan honestly had some of the most dull H scenes I've ever seen. I don't expect big scenario games like this to make me go nuts, but it wasn't even really servicable.

The structure between the two is pretty different as well. KKK is a linear plot where the branches are different character point of views. Senshikan is a good, old multi-route mystery. So in that regard, KKK's plot is a lot simplier. The story certainly gets big and grand, but well it's not really that complicated. It's not like Dies where it had multiple characters doing keikakus at the same time and where one guy's keikaku was according to another guy's keikaku, etc. Senshinkan is a bit more like that. Not nearly as much autism as Dies, but it's more along those lines. One big negative point of KKK is that the final fight sucks. Now that I've told you this, you'll mentally brace yourself a bit so it won't be as bad, but still it's disappointing. Everyone knows how insane the final showdown in Dies was. In Senshinkan, the final fight is also pretty goddamn metal. Not really the case in KKK.

For me, I think I slightly preferred KKK overall. It could just be because I prefer the shinza setting a bit. I felt KKK weighed more heavily on the character drama and conflict than Senshinkan did. Of course, I'm not at all saying that's absent in Senshikan. Quite the opposite. But when it comes to characters autistically screaming each other's names, I felt that was more present in KKK and I eat that shit up. Also, I just really like the setting and overall aesthetic a bit more. It's just cool.

tl;dr: just play senshinkan sometime after k3 anyway since they're both great and thanks for reading my blogpost
