The only time I was satisfied by a panel experience was when artist running the panel was already an established manga artist, or the panelists were actively trolling people.

Man-Yukari at least had a very nice costume. He kept pretty quiet and to himself but Yuka was a moron.

The one Reimu honestly only has masking tape covering her boobs and nipples and she showed them off alot, but she was flat as hell.

There was also a black kid dressed as Mokou wearing a bra. Dude was creepy. The most normal of the whole group was either the Letty or the Yukari.

People always say that there's a bunch of sluts at the cons. I live within driving distance of lounges and bars where I can touch all the fat tits and plump asses I want, so I've never really bothered going to see for myself.

I figured I'll throw on some blue dye, take my shirt off, go in as Kamina from TTGL and mack on everyone, but driving to a con is far, far out of my way. That's road trip status. I haven't had time for one of those in a hell of a while.

Plus, if I HAVE to go to a con nowadays, /jp/ has made it necessary for me to dress as Arcueid. I figured it'd be kind of hard to flex in high heels and I wouldn't be able to show off my physique in a white turtleneck, so I'm not too enthused about that.
I'm still going to do it when I've got shitloads of time on my hands, though, and freak out some people. Wonder if I should shave my sweet stache or not before doing it...

First off to OP, fuck you. i don't care who the fuck you are. it wasn't your panel, you weren't going through the same goddamned stress i was going through the whole weekend. You're probably Nameless Fairy from pooshlmr. i'm only saying this because the same post is on there. You're probably the person that came up top me after the panel was over and attempted to give me "friendly advice" when it was of course some way to be a dick because you're apparently some elite person who gets all pissey because something doesn't go exactly how they want it. Also, don't be fucking scared and suprised that there were porn folders on the screen, since you're probably a virgin still. No one jumped up, yelled "OMG porn is disgusting!" and stomped off.

For everyone else that's raging, get the fuck off your stereotypical high horse. I know the panel didn't go the way it was supposed to and I apologize to everyone that was disgusted or let down, but i tried to make the best out of it that i could. It was my first panel. There were people that had fun. they laughed, applauded the people that came up and introduced their character. I could've been a dick and left a sign that said "you all got trolled" and walked out and never returned to leave everyone in the room pissed, but i didn't. I stayed and tried to brave it and in the end, it was a decent panel. It wasn't the best or great, but it was ok. The people that came up didn't have to, the Yuka cosplayer could've just sat there and shook his head when i asked him for help, but he decided to come up and help. These people showed more balls than any of you might have, especially if they knew doing that would piss a ton of imageboard people off. Besides, when the question "who has never played touhou" was asked, only a couple people raised their hands, so just about everyone has already played touhou before and knows the mechanics, so it went the way it did. And where were the questions? No one asked any game related questions, only the fandom stuff, so your logic of "Stupid fans being fags" doesn't count. If serious questions about the game were asked they would have been answered. If you wanted to know stuff you should've raised your hand and asked. You had time to, but you didn't. You're as much to blame, so don't dump that drama bullshit on me. Don't sit there and be quiet next time, participate.

For the technical stuff, if any of you noticed, only a few minutes went by before people were being let in, which gave me zero time to properly set up and make sure everything was up and running fine. Blame the LE staff for not being within reach and having proper tech guys on hand and cry to them that you're panel was delayed because of their negligence. There were problems like that all over the convention. My friend ran all over trying to find an available tech guy and had no luck. Aside from that the room's internet was locked with an access code, which was retarded as all hell, another thing that was the LE staff's problem, otherwise I could've ran everything off of TouhouWiki and youtube, and everyone would be happy. The comp i would've brought that had everything I needed likes to shut down every 10 minutes and I know no one wants to deal with that. Aside from every other thing that delayed me and the amount of stress i had on me, i had about 10 minutes to pack everything i needed the day of the con and move proper files, which i was only able to transfer half my files and didn't have a chance the weekend to sort everything in it's proper place. So yeah, that's about it for that. The next Touhou panel I run will be organized and run better, but I know you'll never go to that. Once something sticks in your brain you're too stubborn to change your decision.

I went to a Touhou panel at Anime Boston. It was actually really well done, got to watch a guy clear the IN extra stage, and it was enough to get my sister to want to play Touhou.

I never know exactly what to think about these repeated Touhou panels, the first few seemed to genuinely try usually degrading into silly memes but one or two actually got the basic concepts across well enough to have a almost interesting start before moving onto the fan works.

These days, Touhou panels seem to be run by trolls or at least I hope they are trolls for their sake because god damn, they are so bad.

Well, man-yukari, while I (kind of?) applaud your efforts to actually organize and accomplish something, why, of all things, would you put said effort into a TOUHOU PANEL AT A CONVENTION? I mean, really, no matter what, it was bound to fail. It is a simple doujin shooting game, and most of the shit that the "fans" are into is just made-up shit. So at best, you can either have a panel about a series of shooting games, that goes something like "Well. This is what the game is like. Yes, we have a panel for a series of games that is exactly like 500 other games!". Or, worst case, you try to explain the stupid fan jokes and shit which ends up something like "rofl well this character is soooo baka baka XD so she gets made fun of for being stupid", and people respond with "cool story bro".

Pretty much this, I accept that panels are going to happen for pretty much any fandom and Touhou isn't some kind of secret clubhouse, it's been known about in western anime clichés for years and has been picking up momentum.

More then anything it's trying to understand the mentality of a Touhou panel. What's the point of it? Maybe if they set up some a LAN or something to play fighting games against one another, or PoFV or something, or just play the traditional games and see who comes out on top, could be kind of amusing I guess but doesn't seem like panel material on it's own.

Then there's the huge fan content and phenomenon of Touhou which is the bread and butter of these panels, but really it's something everyone has to experience for yourself. You can't just explain all these memes to someone, it's like explaining a joke. It's not interesting unless you see them for yourself. So it ends up as some impenetrable mess of fans spewing memes and IOSYS videos. It just doesn't work.

It's pretty much how I (plan to) run my panels from now on. 30 minutes of a presentation where you give an overview of what Touhou is, and anything important to Touhou in the last year, photoshoot of the cosplayers in attendance while we transition to maintain attention, and then just have people hang out and game for the remaining time left.

Memes don't work well with panels. They're like in-jokes. If you start using them and only some people start laughing, it only serves to alienate everyone else. I wasn't able to abide by my no meme rule for my panels, but I was able to at least heavily restrict their use which kept things going smoothly. IOSYS on the other hand was one of the things I was adamant about not appearing in my panel and I'm glad to say it hasn't yet.
