I like Touhou as much as the next otaku, but I wish you'd post about other games sometimes. Touhou isn't the only good /jp/ game.

sometimes they make threads for games like yume nikki, lain (psx) and some funamusea games. but in general the majority here focuses on touhou. if we focus on something else, the VT, javs and others will take away the board!
(Also, we could meet up one day and play something like yume nikki online. Those kinds of activities have been done before and turned out well.)

/jp/ games are always welcome here. Just look at the Elonafriends, they're still going steong. We used to have rhythm game and mahjong threads all the time but the Vtumor menace really hurt their staying power. Stuff like Yume Nikki, Len'en, etc is definitely welcome.

Just remember its a slower board outside the huge generals, so replies might come in slow over a period of a few days rather than rapid fire. Personally I like it better this way.

Anyway are any of the fanmade spinoffs of Yume Nikki any good? I've heard mixed things about 2kki.

There was a Terraria server; don't know how that went.
There was a non-Touhou doujin games thread a few months ago but it fizzled out early. That would probably be a better direction for this thread than just YN.

You don't need a guide to complete the game. with enough walking and testing you can find all 24 effects. At most if you're missing one, you can google it, but you'll usually be able to find most on your own. you just have to walk and take it easy.

I've been playing 2kki with other people in 2kki online. It being playable on your browser is a great help since downloading 2kki used to be a hassle from what i remember.
You can also play it by yourself if the idea of an MMO ruins the experience for you, for me running into someone else in a remote place that takes 20 minutes to reach to gives a certain feeling.

It's about what you would expect from a collage of different worlds by different artists. Some are very atmospheric and bring on a mood you might not have experienced. Others are plain copy paste that you just loop around until you find an exit.

My absolute biggest gripe with it is that you WILL be going on a fun rabbit hole and get suddenly blocked off by cones/construction signs. It is in a very unfinished state.

By the way, in the Spanish-speaking community, there is a YouTube channel that is very special to us. Well, its creator made an incredible video about Yume Nikki, analyzing it in a way that no one has ever done. I think every fan of yume nikki should see this video. It is subtitled in English. and I heartily recommend it. a real shame that the creator of the video withdrew from youtube.

I mean shit like Alphys gets forgiven for all the bad things she did. despite having done horrible experiments on innocent people. or how Asgore is treated like an idiot at the end. and so all the characters have shit that makes them questionable, like Toriel and how shitty she can be.
So the morale of the game sucks because many things are forgotten or overlooked and everyone acts like a retard at a certain point. I do not know if I explain myself very well.
the point is that undertale can sometimes be put at the level of Steven Universe with its speeches political and its morals.

Yes, you are missing the point. my complaint is that the game has shit morale, and its characters are shit. The fact that a character doesn't get punished for the bad things they did is bullshit. and you bring up dragon ball out of nowhere as if it were a perfect series, when everyone knows they have their flaws. what happens is that dragon ball does not give you speeches or have such a shameless moral or message. it's just a series of fights where they can revive the dead. What emulator? I played through it with EasyRPGPlayer with no issues (other than needing to provide a custom midi library on Android).
You could also try Yume Nikki Online if you have no other options, but having other players around might taint the experience.

Are there? The only one I know is the Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble clone but that's a licensed title rather than a proper fan game.

absolutely no

if modded, then rather something like thorium+redemption+qwerty with the gensokyo mod. calamity is soft to hard incompatible with nearly everything else (both intentionally and unintentionally) and also just not that good.

but most people here play pirated, so using steam workshop would not work.

I like the kind of world(s) http://repureria.blog.fc2.com/ makes. Excluding his horrible pee fetish, I like how there are both monsters and humans and there's no discrimination about fucking either. I also like how people in the world are able to think about things other than sex all the time and aren't even necessarily horny, though at least in Repure 1/2 they have a good reason to be horny due to general lack of dudes around. I also like how the NPCs aren't necessarily trying to kill you all the time. Some are aggressive, some are passive, some will attack you but become passive under certain circumstances, some are just mindless creatures. There are even NPCs of the same type of creature that just talk to you. I especially like the weird sense of morals they have, particularly about clothing. There's very little in the way of underwear in the world, but they still consider being naked outside a bathing or sexual context to be kinda weird, though used to it because there are many naked lesser intelligent things running around. There's little in the way of hangups about random sex, but you can still be kind of overly lewd. Its about the only kind of monster girl related work I can tolerate because the monsters are mostly just people.

I like the overall design with hidden areas and stuff but I think it suffers from having too many save/restore points and just kinda randomly placed enemies without anywhere near as much thought as is given to the castle and room layout. The actual combat part is kinda trash and I wish they had some sort of help in that respect but it seems to be the usual with these types of games. Also only repure 1 and limlilim are any sexy. I also think his VN style lewd scenes are trash.

Out of all things I think limlilim's system of using character to interact with the environment should be expanded on. Repure's 2 support character skill system was interesting as well but maybe a bit unrefined.
