The story, the direction, the cast, the BGM, the quality of all its elements are all very high, makes one wishes for more of such high quality production from Japan as it's pretty rare these days. It has the good ol' inaka cult theme found in many Japanese fiction but the innovative directing and the actors' performances made it more absorbing. I didn't read the manga so I don't know how faithful the adaptation is but I hope they're planning a continuation.

Ishii said this film is the culmination of his creative research activities over the past 17 years since he became a professor at Kobe Design University, must be a very passionate work. Watched the first episode of Hatsukoi. You can tell it's a Netflix production, it looks a lot nicer than the usual JDrama. Gotta say I'm not a fan of flashback based stories however, I wonder if that's going to be a thing throughout the series? Hikaris young actress isn't nearly as charming as her and desu I'm not really sold on the romance. I doubt this is gonna be something I love by the end but I'll keep watching for now because Hikaris acting is intoxicating as usual.

Watched A Bride for Rip Van Vinkle. Wow. One of the best Japanese movies I have seen, definitely top 5. It's criminal how little this gets talked about. I still have to let it sink in because there is so much to think about, but everything from acting to cinematography was top notch. Mashiro's monologue towards Nanami towards the end was soul shattering. Highly recommended.
