I like it just fine. It's definitely not as good as the better Japanese stuff, but it's not inedibably bad either.

Because when Americans go out for sushi, they want a quick, often cheap, healthy meal. You get what you pay for.
Further, it's made and sold in America as exotic foreign food, not necessarily as high class cuisine in which a chef would take much pride.
You can find good sushi in the US, you'll just pay a fair dime for it.

Pretty much the only reason I go for Japanese (Busy lifestyles and etc).

If I do find the time to eat quality food - no offense but I won't be eating most of the common japanese dishes.

no one eats raw fish in the US, that's unsanitary. Especially in that time=money culture

I know three Sushi joints in my area (I'm in Hamburg, Germany)
One is run by Chinese, the other one by Koreans and the last one is owned by a German but with mostly Japanese staff.

I had a Kobe steak last week and it was delicious. It was Americanized, though, but imitated the real Japanese one. It was the best steak I ever had. So tender, juicy and flavorful.
