Yeah, thats called reading the notes, and its generally a lot easier to read accurately with higher speeds than default. If you can read accurately at low speeds then you wont need higher speeds I guess, and everybody reads differently, but it definitely isnt common to sightread accurately at low speeds because having too many notes visible makes it harder to keep steady and smaller visual gaps make it harder to parse the relative timing of the notes.

I'm getting hard walled by DDR's 16 folder and I dont know how to progress. I cleared my first 16 and 17 in the same week, in october or november, and I havent cleared another in either folder. The songs were Wadatsumi and Bi. I've gotten a few decent attempts at Vanquish the Ghost in the 16 folder, and I'm slowly chipping away at The World Ends Now, but my stamina is really failing me on some of the denser charts.

I've started going back to the 13/14 folder and I'm playing for accuracy, which is fun and all, but I really miss being able to push my limits and do stamina heavy charts. Are there other ways to build stamina other than "play more?" Because that's clearly not working out.

yeah, if you're within reach of 12's in IIDX you should just grind them until you can clear them all. It isn't the most fun way to play the game, but eventually you'll break through the mind wall. Accuracy is an easier skill to build than clearing density is.

Due to the physical nature of DDR 2-3 difficulties below where you're at can still provide plenty of challenges. Like in SDVX if a person is doing 19s theres not going to be much challenge in 16s, but in DDR at those same difficulties they're still demanding and can incorporate elements in those higher difficulties.

The QoL features introduced in modern IIDX make the PS2 styles just absurdly obsolete. You'll have a better time and have all of the songs from the PS2 version on the most recent AC version. They're fun for a trip down nostalgia lane, but they're not great ways to play the game in 2023.
