It's much more likely that instead of thinking "hm this sentence needs 2 newlines to distinguish it from this other sentence for readability" you instead accidentally typed 2 based on your muscle memory, from forums like reddit that require that 2 newlines be typed in the source to output 1.

I don't know, I'm honestly overwhelmed by the choices right now
I played in this order
Natsume - > Nozomi -> Mei -> Kanna -> Suzune
Natsume and Kanna are my 2 favs for sure, Natsume beating her by a little, followed closely by Mei, then Nozomi, then Suzune. Nozomi and Suzune are great, they have great, entertaining relationships with Kousei in every route regardless of whether he wants to fuck them so they don't even need routes to justify themselves (unlike maybe Mei, for example), but their routes are good too. I just didn't like them quite as much as the others. Kanna's route was insane, she and Natsume definitely feel the most different in their routes, like you barely even scratch their character unless you play their routes. I like that. as far as sex scenes go, I really think Natsume/Mei/Kanna are tied for how great theirs are (other than Natsume's voice being incomparable) kind of rambling, but do you have a recommendation based on that?

What's the best way to learn Japanese vocabulary? Is it just a matter of reading material and just looking up words you don't recognize/know?

I tried the "Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocabulary" Anki deck, but it feels like such a profound waste time. It keeps have stupid words like ラーメン or スチュワーデス which are either impossible to not already know or are simply clearly legible as English words, doubling up of words like 多い/多く and 深い/深さ creating a mess of extra cards, showing transitive/intransitive verbs without stating which is which, words that don't make sense without more examples (e.g. 発言 is just given as "speech/utterance", which isn't helpful without useful examples like 今の発音 that show how you can make sentences like "did you hear what I just said?"), or worst of all, a bunch of words that all mean similar things (e.g. 組織/構成/構造 all being "organization" or 揺れる/震える/振る all being "shake") that require me to look up the words outside of the deck anyway to tell them apart. So the words the deck teaches are often useless, tedious, or require extra research anyway, making the deck itself feel like it's providing extremely limited benefit.

I feel like there must be a better way, but is that better way really just leaping straight into Japanese text and looking up words as I go along?

some people will tell you to mine, mining decks are the ultimate but I dodn't recommend it at the very beginning. just start going into japanese content that you like, and do your core deck in the meanwhile. don't worry about the different core decks, in a few months you'll be too good for which core deck you picked to matter in the end. just pick one and start

It likes to include the same word/phrase in different orthography, there were a lot of words in hiragana that I had already learned as kanji, and sometimes separate hiragana and katakana versions like:

There were also a TON of katakana loan words that I felt were too obvious to bother with cards for.
