Two fellows want to 「スープ作る」

The first goes online to study.
He gets overwhelmed by the sheer number of conflicting 「作る方」
He picks a 「作る方」 at random, but fails.
He says to himself: "I am not suited for「スープ作る」" and quits

The second throws random 「材料」 into a 「鍋」, and also fails.
But he notices some 「味」 he likes, and tries again, focusing on those 「味」.
The next one is better, and the next even better.
Until, one day, he obtains 「その食べたいスープ」.

I learned from cure dolly sensei, this is simple it's just that the first one has a rough english translation as you shouldn't be translating into english anyway
日本語が話せます - japanese lets itself be spoken
日本語を話せます - (私が)日本語を話せます - I speak Japanese.
I don't see any object in the first sentence, yet of course these sentences have the same meaning.
There is also related reading on a similar topic http://nhg.pro.tok2.com/qa/joshi-19.htm that shows how english teaching has affected younger Japanese.

some anon posted the other day about a simplified English, a "basic english" that only needed 850 words to be fluent in!
it doesn't exist anymore
see, to make such a construct work you have to warp the rules so that it can work, as a result, people who speak english, cant understand it, and people who speak simplified english spend a ton of time learning rules for a language that doesn't exist and nobody could understand other than the guy that made it.
>its not basic and its not english
i like that quote.
point being you are making a dialect that will confuse fluent people and be useless for the users as they cant communicate with anyone anyway
in a language most every word is load bearing in a way or another

its arguing semantics anyway, what people that make those simplified languages end up discovering is that they are their own languages

the point is more they are not latin anymore, and while theres some shared stuff that makes romance speakers be able to understand each other, to an extent, in some situations, latin is dead.

『ここより鉱山の街』という横断幕が掲げられている
saw this sentence
I roughly get the meaning but I'm not sure exactly what the より is doing here. my best guess is that it's like これより but for a place. Like "you are now entering 鉱山の街".
Is that it?

the japanese one is less difficult because it's just 来る plus られる plus なかった plus たら which are all things you know anyway if you can understand japanese, so it's basically 0 mental bandwidth, whereas with eat -> ate it's a single arbitrary tense thing you have to memorize.
both are really easy though

yeah but the implication of the post was that こられなかったら was a specific irregular tense equiavelent to ate, but it's actually just an irregularly conjugated verb plus 3 other things, whereas eat -> ate is just one.
if the poster understood that they wouldn't have made the post because 来た is no harder than ate, clearly.

that's just a reading comprehension problem. I made the post and wasn't implying it's just past tense. was just pointing out a long irregular combo conjugation from a smol word, unlike anything I can think of in english

that's on the right track. most borrowings post-tang dynasty are treated as "specifically chinese" as opposed to "generically east asian/sino-xenic", and this includes most kanji being pronounced with irregular japanese approximations of the modern mandarin pronunciation rather than codified onyomi (see: various chinese food items like 回鍋肉, 拉麺, or for a spicy deep cut that only became internationally known in the 2010s, 肉夾饃)

Does anyone else skip Japanese onomatopoeia?

I’ve been using Japanese in Mangaland as a text and also did the workbook exercises. But there’s a whole chapter on onomatopoeia and I find it really boring. I read somewhere that Japanese use onomatopoeia a lot, is it ok to skip it?

My main goal is not to take the exams but really to watch anime and read manga.

i mean the guy who posted the image expected it to be really common so that knowing 3 kanji in the phrase would be enough to figure it out but that's not the case at all. as for how that other guy found it, if you just google the kanji in >>42511336 with 絶 for the second character, which is probably the most common kanji with 色 on the right, you get a hit to that fanwiki page but if that didn't work out there would be no way to tell. it also means the original guy did no work googling or couldn't make out those 3 kanji in the first place

yes but it's a common thing they do, it's just something you have to get used to via exposure you can't always intuit these things on first try
