Last time grammar and sentence suffixes broke me, any tips before the give this another go?
Also is there any tool that helps you decipher kanjis in games or manga? Been using Google translate draw feature so far, but my handwriting is garbo and it fails do decipher some of the more complex ones

I immerse playing genshin impact. My way of doing things is either using Akebi, when I just want to simply mine - akebi, open anki, take photo of the screen, bam, simple card with context.

Or I take screenshot, put in microsoft paint, save it on, eh, don't know how it's called - the place with wallpaper -, then later ocr it and parse it using tools on the internet. But Genshin is way above my level so I don't parse it in depth as I did before.

I never had problem using google translate to search kanji, but i have drawing tablet.

Many people who watch The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten will realize it is pure fantasy, a fantasy pandering to your subconscious need to be taken care of like a child returned to their parents. I’m sorry, men, but the sooner you break the fantasy that a 1-dimensional stereotypically perfect girl will come to be your mother/maid/girlfriend, the sooner you will grow up.

Male fantasy fuel anime like The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten perpetuates a sense of entitlement and can lead to feelings of bitterness and resentment towards ordinary women. It is not helpful or healthy for men to think that women will spoil them. Men need to focus on developing healthy relationships with other people, not on being spoiled by them and setting unrealistic expectations.

The Angel Next Door presents only two characters with identifiable traits: a generic male protagonist named Amane, and Mahiru, a girl similar to Tsukasa from Tonikawa Over the Moon for You. For no good reason, she becomes protective of Amane, but his name does not matter since he is an avatar for the audience. He is so devoid of traits that anyone with a similar fantasy can project onto him. Sometimes, monotonous characters lacking personality can develop and become more fleshed out. As of the third episode, there has yet to be character growth.

Even for those who find this sort of escapism appealing, there’s nothing that elevates this above its contemporaries. For a production of this middling caliber, it’s no shock there’s not much animation, and the background art lacks detail. You’ll recognize the generic character designs if you’ve watched studio Project No. 9’s other tv series, such as HigeHiro and Tomozaki-kun. Excluding Inukai-san’s Dog, this has the laziest opening and ending visuals I’ve seen all season. The songs are fine—generic—but the visuals are simply reused footage, panning shots of Mahiru, and slideshow animation.

For anyone who’s seen this premise done before, you’ll know the generic male fantasy makes for a pretty dull story. All the steps are predictable; Mahiru takes care of Amane in every episode, then they develop feelings for each other. It tries to be simpler than most unbelievable fantasies, which may give the impression that it’s classier—there’s no comedy, melodrama, or fan service. It’s like unsalted chips: Flavorless junk food entertainment.

Oh, I don't do that at all. I order the deck by frequency and do new cards as I'm reading. Maybe a bit before starting the book I'll do reps for a couple dozen words if they appear a lot. But I started about a year ago and have maybe 7k words, so that's a pretty small number.
I also mix and match sources. If I'm watching some anime I'll grab a couple words from there.
The point about reps being usefull for kind of rare words makes a tone of sense and once I reach that stage I'll probably drop jpdb and do just that.

different tools for different purposes. flashcards are for rememebering glyphs/glyph combinations and thats the extent of their power. but they are excellent for that. they shave years off the process of memorizing the glyphs, especially at the start

its funny because when i started i went hardcore into cards and memorized an incredibly large list of kanji and words
but i couldn't read anything regardless
it wasn't a waste cause i still remember all the readings and it did shave a lot of time off things, but even knowing the readings and meaning i still had to read/listen a ton for things to feel "right"

Let me reiterate better on what I mean and hopefully answer your question with that:

I wouldn't actually recommend core decks at all if not for exercising memorization on said vocabulary, in other words, its good for helping you keep those words but not as your first method for learning such words.

If you want to focus more on conversation ( and I know I did want that initially as well), its better instead to go into beginner immersion content, like child audio books, that foreign student japanese video lessons thing*(I think both are on guides), and I really recommend you try that "human japanese" app and report back to us.

But as it turns out, you really can't separate spoken language from the written one, and there are so many things that will start to click together when you figure out kanji and their meaning and whatnot. And for that I strongly recommend proper kanji study so you can see radicals a give a bit more meaning to them than just a bunch of squiggly lines, for this, the easy method is something like wani kani or similar.

And of course, some grammar is necessary, just to get even the bare minimum and start breaking down sentences and their meaning, japanese is a very feeling oriented language, and deep grammar study isn't required, but grasping the basics really goes a heck of a long way, even into getting to understand casual speech.

In time I found that that the speech immersion and specific kanji study will start to feed into each other, things will get a heck of a lot more enjoyable and easier to get into more advanced immersion content.
