Today I got the feeling more than I have in a long time.
That feeling that pulls me to Japan. I'm not sure exactly what triggered it,
something about being with all those Japanese people today.
But I think it's the first time I have felt it this much since being in Japan.
It makes me truly miss it, being in Japan. I have happy memories like no other.
Only now that I am back home can I truly realize how much I loved it.

I think you start with youtube channels where charming young ladies make immersive content for beginners, lessons explaining stuff and youtube kids also recommended me some japanese show from 80s. Not anime. Also you read, mine. I also take notes. People here say I should immerse with raw anime, listen to let's players talking at full speed, but I think travelling videos are better because, it's with real people. There is also Japanese the Manga way. I really like it. That book doesn't give you a chance to feel overwhelmed.

have you heard of Zipfs law? its the postulation that when observations (e.g., words) are ranked by their frequency, the frequency of a particular observation is inversely proportional to its rank. it occurs on a lot of things mind you, not just words, and it is actually very helpful to understanding how immersion, languahes, and generally, human minds work
see, for a sentence to be coherent and have meaning to another human being, it must follow certain rules
if i say car is red, that means something. if i say car is gravity, that does not.
in other words, every word one says limits what every other word can be
the point of this is that our minds instinctively understand this (have you ever completed someone elses sentences, or predicted what someone is going to say, for example?)
eventually youll be able to do that with japanese, too. the reason you cant do so yet is that your mind doesn't have sufficient samples yet to know what goes after what, and what does not, or what the cause effect relationship of all of those things is
tldr: when you listen/read enough, youll just understand things like you do in english, with relatively little effort.

I don't really have trouble with 自分 or 方 but 開く (and similar words like 汚る, 抱く, etc.) can be annoying. What's the problem with 間 though, when is that ever read as かん outside of compounds? A better example would be 中 as an arbitrary suffix and the question of whether it makes more sense as ちゅう or じゅう
Probably the strangest one of all to me is how 難い as a suffix can be either にくい or がたい, because 'hard to do' and 'virtually impossible to do' are pretty distinct claims

used to add audio, example sentences, pictures, and all sort of things to cards, now i just have a j-j definition i don't even read most of the time
you have to understand things change, and at the start, immersion is very hard and anki very easy, because you cant understand the immersion, its annoying, tiring, frustrating, whatever, while anki is clear and comforting and has clear metrics
at some point, you start understanding and then things flip, immersion becomes huge dopamine hits, and anki is harder to do because a lot of the time id rather be reading/experiencing new things than reading the same cards
but that takes a bit of time, so just put whatever feels useful to you, just remember anki is a tool, not the purpose or destination

my advice at the beginning is to bias readings as much as possible so you can get out of the relying on yomichan to look up words you don't know how to read phase as soon as possible
