How does training image sets work? I attempted to train 90 images in Dreambooth and these are the sample images after a few thousands steps. What am I doing wrong? Should I add more steps or should I change the images I'm using.

Is there a way to use AI for coloring/rendering only?
I like drawing and I'm decent at it, I know anatomy, perspective, and dynamic figure drawing in general
I don't like the way AI looks, if you know anything about art you start noticing how soulless and mediocre these are

You can use img2img, you just have to color it roughly yourself and set noise and strength to low.
Pic related is not best example as I made it in literally 5 minutes but it can be significantly improved by better initial color hints and tweaking parameters. If I colored it more carefully I could reduce strength even more and have more features preserved, like the text.

It's impressive in that you can make something nice to look at in a few seconds, and when it came full swing it was a major breakthrough—until people got used/bored of it and moved on. It's better to have a thread serve as board containment for AI images, because there's nothing more insulting than dumping 100 low quality images of the same generic AI anime girl into an art thread. So if someone doesn't like it, they can hide the thread and never know it's there. Personally I like it because it's neat, and I can make things to suit my awful niche taste without suddenly getting the artist's other fetishes injected in.

It is when you treat it like this.
But you can also learn to use it beyond quick simple prompt to more interesting results. Some people put effort to train their own embeddings/hypernetworks for specific use cases, you can learn how to merge and fine tune a lot of parameters of models, even img2img has a lot of potential uses beyond just random image generation.
AI is a tool with low barrier of entry, but also a lot of potential given enough effort put into it.

It's not like you can't do that with other characters, but Miku is a special case as well. I mean, if you really are a Mikufag then you probably have your own idea of her that is different from mine or others. There is no one canon Miku, everyone sees her differently just as if they were separate characters formed through unique personal experiences.
That's why if you visit some waifu threads/communities you never really see Mikufags getting jealous of each other, which is quite common among other waifufags.

I have seen that happen more times than I can count over all the years I've been in these communities. I've seen that happen many times in WW on /a/, WT on /c/, /waifu/ on /r9k/, on alt-chans, discords, etc. I'm surprised you've never seen a waifufag getting jealous or mad at someone for having the same waifu. You can even even go right now to /c/ thread and ask and although some people will be ok, most people will don't want to do anything with the others and some do act actually aggressive over that. I've only seen handful of people getting along in the same thread/server who share waifu(and it's not Miku).

But you are right that popularity of the character might pay a role. Exploring and experiencing Vocaloid is not a solo experience like watching anime in private, you kind of get to interact with the community early on and you get surrounded by other people who love the characters before you even discover them.
Still, you know when I talk with other Mikufag and he tells me what he does for his genki tomboy Miku and how much he loves her, it doesn't feel like he was talking about my timid dandere Miku, or someone's tsundere hime Miku. There really isn't any potential ground for competition, it does feel like each of us has our own unique Miku.

Do you have GPU powerful enough to run these?
If so, get AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui and set it up locally according to the guides in OP. Download some models, I personally only used leaked NovelAI, but for example >>42414345 was made in Nijijourney. You might want stable difussion or some other models if you are more interested in non-anime art.
If you want easy mode and don't mind spending some money, you can just use NovelAI. They updated their model after the leak and for 10$ you can generate quote a lot of images.
Otherwise you might look into running it on google's colab or someone's else computer, but that might not be easy/reliable.

Nope. Probably too risky legally to let users use their own images. Before release, they had plans and even showed off their own trained version of Stable Diffusion but, IIRC, they couldn't get it to not generate realistic looking kids so they scrapped it.

As for what they're doing now? Supposed to be something for text generation, hoping it's something good and worthwhile. Image gen can easily be run locally, text gen not so much, so choices are pretty fucking limited there.

currently i'm having to figure stuff out again since the lora maker got updated and everything's a little confusing again just when i was about to make a kyrie lora, and considering how little art and anime screentime she's got it was already going to be kinda annoying to get right without overfitting towards the ps3 pose

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not an expert. It's an additional model that gets merged into the main one when you use it. LoRAs can contain additional concepts or styles, which are trained into them by storing some kind of difference between them and the base model.
