They don't offer free shipping. It was $24.65 to ship a MDD body a year ago. Two years ago, it was $23.65. My most expensive shipping charge from them was $32.77 when I ordered a bunch of hand and wrist parts, a dress, a dream rescue, and two body suits, but no body. So I guess $25-40 would be a good expectation for shipping, depending on how much you buy.

My dolly from Aliexpress is here. My first baby...
She is so beautiful and perfect and I love her already, she's gonna look even more beautiful when her wig and clothes arrive
I pulled the trigger and ordered a super pretty looking clothes set that costed me like 50 dollars, I hope it fits her, I'm so nervous

Anyways, she is a resin doll, held together by string. I've never held a vinyl doll in my hands but I always imagined the material would be exactly like this. I wonder if there's a lot of difference?

Conversely to anyone wanting to go the other way, buy or make a restringing tool and pull the string up through the dd neck hole, then place the S-hook inside the DD/Obitsu/etc head! Yes, but you can get into it on a small scale to test the waters. Small dolls like Obitsu 1/6 and Azone Pure Neemo are a great way to see how you enjoy the doll experience without committing to a fully-priced, 60cm doll sitting in your home.

Does anyone have experience with the 1/6th Parabox dolls? Petit hime ones seem nice for the cost but perhaps the quality suffers as a result. Also are there any good (international) sellers for 1/6 doll clothes and wigs? The better Parabox ones seem to always be out of stock.

How much do you want to spend? Because you can get handmade wood furniture and such at that scale. It's really only a matter of how hard you want to go with it. You can use cardboard and paint to make functional pieces that look alright, you can 3D print stuff, whatever floats your boat. If I was to recommend a starting point, it would be to make a box to put it in, so you know how big you want it to be and what kind of space you need to fill. If you have a specific room in mind you can just scale down from the plans for a real room by reducing them to 1/6th.

I found this 1/4 scale guitar on Y!JA and made the strap out of a strip of brown vinyl. It's the perfect size for a MDD girl. Anyway, it came in a box that said "Fender by Axe Heaven" on it. So I googled Axe Heaven and found that it's actually a US company with an online store that sells lots of guitars and other stuff. Now I've spent $200 on another guitar, a bass, a couple actual guitar straps, a drum kit, and a microphone. I'm going to have a full MDD band soon! I also found this 15% off promo code on google, so if anyone else is looking for this kind of stuff make sure to use it: ROCK101

Resin can have delicate parts that need to be babied (fingers, toes, and other small parts especially), but for general handling it's pretty sturdy. Vinyl is a tough, flexible material that doesn't damage easily, but it can stain from strongly-colored fabrics (red and black are the worst about this.) Both materials have pros and cons, but overall they'll stand up to general use. I take mine out for photos all the time, picrel.

Well if you just want to see it I don't actually have access to the doll right now to take a picture but this is what it is: MDD Reimu. The tubes on her bang thingies slide off really easily and if you try to just slide them up it usually doesn't work because her hair length for that area isn't all the same length, so you have to take them off and put them back on again, which is very difficult. It's difficult to succinctly explain the mechanism but it's hard to use and fragile. Then there's her main ribbon on her head, which is held on by a clip, but also needs to be supported by the hair tie of her partial pony tail. God forbid that hair tie fall down because if it does, again you can't just slide it back up as it tends to push some hairs up with the tie, so you have to take it off, completely re-tie the partial pony tail, which is difficult, and then put the ribbon back on, all without messing the tubes or the hair tie up.

I have literally spent hours on single attempts to re-adjust her hair.

I can't say if it's better or worse than the one you posted as it's the only thing like it that I've used. In addition to using it as a normal light source, I also used it to produce the orange light in pic related, to simulate a campfire. It is just the light, however. It looks like the one in your pic might come with a tripod as well? I just searched for the one in your pic on amazon and it's also on there for $79 and there's a 10% off coupon, so it's very close in price to mine. That listing also seems to be light only.

I collect both vinyl and resin. If there's one thing I wish we'd get more of in the vinyl side of things, it's to create more fantasy bullshit like what some of the resin sculptors get up to, picrel. It doesn't have to be as insanely detailed as something from, say, Dream Valley, but having basic animal parts that don't require hybriding or DIY solutions would be nice.

I got the instruments I ordered from Axe Heaven the other day! But I have to say, while the guitars are great and perfect size for MDDs, the other things are disappointing. Primarily because they are not 1/4 scale at all like it says on the website. They're much closer to 1/6 scale and almost perfect for Azone 1/6 dolls, as shown in the picture. The drums might be a bit big (and the stool that she sits on is a bit small) but it's certainly much closer to their scale than my 1/4s who tower over them.
Another thing I wondered was if the microphone was stuck to the stand or if it could be removed and held. I tried to pull it out and the clip is very hard and brittle so it broke. That's okay though because I just used some blue tack to stick it back on and the microphone was really cheap anyway ($6 i think). I should mention that I pulled it straight up instead of trying to slide it out horizontally, which may have been dumb on my part, but I don't know if it would have made a difference.
So if anyone else was thinking of ordering anything, the guitars are great for MDDs; everything else not so much - maybe okay for Azone 1/6 dolls.

there are tons of vinyl doll faceup tutorials on youtube so you could search for those. In your doll's case you'd just probably need some diluted acrylic paint (they do it with acrylic paint thinner, not sure if water works as well) and fill the areas. if you're not confident with your strokes maybe sketch up the parts you want to repair with a good quality watercolor pencil (you can buy individual colors instead of the whole set, since you only need brown) and then paint over the sketch with the acrylic. Cover the entire face with matte varnish to seal everything (plus it's a layer of protection to minimize future accidents) mister super clear matte sealant is the favorite among hobbyists, but it's quite toxic so you need a breathing mask and eye protection+gloves. Also it doesn't stick in certain temperatures and humidities. There are other techniques with other less toxic sealants but i can't recall them well right now. good luck anon!

She is only 1/6, about 30cm tall. Can't imagine how exciting it must be to have larger dolls around
The wig was also meant for 1/6 size, but I believe my doll's head is a bit large (17cm around). Looking at the wig sizes, a 1/4 wig would have fit her too.

wig sizes are typically measured separately from scale (which is already ambiguous for weeb dolls)
for example, all APs have the same body, but some wear 6-7" wigs (more realistic proportions) others (Ellie/Elles) wear 8-9" (more anime)
DD/MDDs are in the 8-9" range

it all depends on what you're looking to make, and wether you want it to just be for a quick photo, or your going to use it over and over.
if it's purely for photos, there's always the option of using just a green-screen, and having a versatile enough lighting setup that you can match the lighting of a pre-selected image.
for basic indoor backdrops, you can also glue wallpaper to cardboard, or thin plywood, or even find images of it, and scale it down to doll size, and print it out.
for furniture etc cardboard, paper mache and the cheapest and easiest options, but of course they won't last as long, or look as good as making them from wood and fabric.
basically, your imagination and your budget will be the only limiting factors.

holding a camera works for situations with great lighting, but anything less than that and you'll want to crank down the shutter speed

Quick question, what’s a good size of BJD for animations? I don’t want something that’s too big, a little bit around the same size of an figma/Super Action Statue (if their even the same size)

>> No.42331020

>>42330862
Figma are approximately 1/12 - 1/10 scale depending on which you're playing with, which is extraordinarily small for strung dolls due to the need for them to be hollow to accommodate the elastics inside. The smallest size you're going to get adult proportions is 1/6 but usually 1/6 are more childish looking and are actually 1/3 of very young looks. It's quite easy to find adult looking 1/4 dolls though (40-45cm range) which many be unwieldy for animation but will have the most options for both dolls and clothing

>> No.42331048

>>42331020
To add onto this, there ARE chibi BJD in the 1/12 range but I'm not sure that's what you'd be aiming for. If you're looking for figma-sized dolls, check out the following lines by Azone:
Mimy Garden / ミミーガーデン
Assault Lily / アサルトリリィ
Picco Ex Cute / ピコえっくすきゅーと
Lil' Fairy / リルフェアリー
The first two have plastic hair and come with multiple changeable face parts for different expressions, which might be more ideal for animations. The Mimy Gardens often have leather bags and look like they would be good for animations involving exploration or hiking in nature. The Assault Lilies come with interesting weapons and would probably be good for action/fight scenes.
The latter two are more standard dolls with a single head (one expression) and rooted hair. The Lil' Fairy line looks cuter or more childlike, I believe from having a larger head. They often come with accessories and outfits related to household chores like cooking and cleaning.

what, closeups of incredibly well-endowed dolls?
not really, I saved that pic because it managed to be attractive despite the otherwise comical size
pic related etc. are about the closest among what I've saved, aside from some AP reference pics

Is it possible to shove a DDf3 skeleton into the unitorso DD3? I want to make a character doll with n exposed tummy and the DD torso joint isn't really an aesthetic I like, but the unitorso doesn't exist for the new bodies

We haven't talked about 'Farewell Services' in here that I know of.
I think it's a cultural thing in Japan, where dolls are often regarded higher than in the western world. I don't know a lot about it, but I kinda get the sentiment. Rather than know your girls are going to wind up in the Japanese equivalent of the Goodwill or a garage sale after you die/leave the hobby, you can pay to have them taken care of by Volks. I know for the SD side of the hobby, they clean up the dolls and sell them to other collectors out of their super fancy Kyoto facility. I assume they do the same with DD.

its a service for really old yellowed dolls. they replace the doll for a fee, and either re-home the old doll, or dispose of it. since some people have the japanese tradition of believing 'dolls have souls' after a year or so, this may be a more comforting way than selling it, you are 'returning it home'
and for people with really oldskin volks resin, this is an opportunity to refresh the original character with the company, and feel you are not doing its 'character or soul' a disservice.

That sounds great. I also remember they have the custom to send the old dolls to shrines (apparently many believe that if you carelessly dispose of a doll they will come back to haunt you). There are some urban legends of haunted dolls that were send to shrines. It's really cool.

>> No.42359658

>>42359532
It's a very common urban legend, and people are supersticous in general, so it works out. You get a brand new doll, it is the 'same' doll in that it's "soul was transferred over by the maker" and the old body gets to be loved by a new person or it gets "buried" and given a proper ending.
I think the service is actually really good. There are many one-off dolls from Volks that now can be restored with the newer resin (1000x more UV resistant than the original batches) and was actually something people had sort of requested in the past when the new resin types came out.

I don't get it. That seems like it completely beats the purpose of "believing 'dolls have souls'" if you're going to treat it like an object that you can replace/renew

Anyway, I wouldn't throw my doll like that, I would just keep the old parts or something ffs

>> No.42364628

>>42364603
its more the 'object has a soul' that can be transferred to a person, and that soul might be angry if it isn't cared for...or looks nice. They believe 'disinterest' and 'lack of care' is worse than 'replacement'
there are a few comics I have seen about a doll that was carelessly thrown away, or allowed to get damaged without care that came and haunted the owner.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking at here. Is it the upper frame going into the lower frame part? If so, yes. A gap is normal as the upper torso frame is shared between the dds and standard dd.
