its a short story by nasu about the original type invasion that actually takes place in both the future and the past somehow or something like that, I got bored so I only skimmed it.

Basically some dude decides he doesn't want to be a cyborg and later he finds a gun and uses it to kill planets which are trying to fuck earth.

One of these planets doesn't die all the way and starts following him around in the form of an angel with a guitar. While her actual body is sheltering the rest of humanity from the other planets.

Also some guy turns his spine into a sword and cuts these other planet guys up.

I couldn't really get int Kagetsu Tohya because I wasn't able to find any good guide on the internet. Is it really important to read it before getting into Melty Blood's story?

Not really. Melty Blood is supposed to follow Sacchins good end(which doesn't currently exist) Kagetsu Tohya is pretty good, just check every option, and see the cat as much as you can to progress.
