Not really. Its not some intense research and development going on, they're simply adding more or less silicone oil to the blend. Soft silicone has always been there, they aren't working towards it. Making silicone as soft as TPE removes a few of the silicone pros over TPE, like holding finer details and durability. So to me it seems more of a downgrade to make it too soft as you lose the benefits and still pay the massive premium.
