personally i'd go over how kanji functions before even learning kanji. what's kunyomi/onyomi, what is a radical? jukugo and how onyomi becomes more common in them. the different versions and positions a radical can be at (don't need to go too deep but atleast be aware of it) the more of a fundamental understanding of how kanji functions you have, the easier it becomes to recognize and memorize them. i'm skipping rtk and just learn vocab that has kanji in it. but the first time i tried it was hard because i lacked kanji fundamentals, this time it's much easier
