I was about to talk about this as well, I've been feeling that anki is pretty inefficient for me, or at least at this stage, words barely stick, and I can rarely tell the kanji apart
I've getting better at listening and learning individual kanji,
I feel like using something like kakugo instead (where you have multiple options), helps me engage more my brain on contextualizing it, and there are several options like kanji to reading/meaning/writing and so on
once reading/meaning are stronger, it becomes so much easier go through regular a regular core vocab deck

I think either way, none of the methods substitute immersion for getting vocab and the subtleties of all the different conjugations
