Just consuming content is supposed to be too "slow and inefficient" at the start for learning a language, espoused by the Matt types. Yet that doesn't make sense. If you spend 30 minutes a day to make and learn 7 cards a day, within a year you'll have a vocab exceeding 2400 of the most common words, which is about where these guys think language learning using raw input actually speeds up. The problem isn't actually the inefficiency, but that people aren't willing to spend 30 minutes/day doing braindead anki reps. They don't learn the language because they don't find learning pleasurable. At the start, focusing on progress is a method doomed to fail, and using pleasure to get over the hump is probably a better method. It involves being able to capture words from whatever you're doing. Like if you're watching hentai and you hear a word you want to keep, you should have an Nvidia Shadowplay hotkey to clip the moment and put into a video file in Anki automatically. Or IMG snip tools to move text from manga to Anki automatically. I'm writing software tools that let's me do this from scratch, learning 215 items per month @ 40 min per day. 10 minutes are lost due to the software not being complete. But most of all, I enjoy it and look forward to my learning session every day.

>>42284275
there's a separation between consuming content and doing reps that really shouldn't be. At the end of the day you should be able to just consume, press a key and have the cards be made for you automatically with minimal input like "I want to learn this word in this sentence, its interesting". The extract is played back with the word bleeped out when you want to do rep. In which case its mostly consumption with minimal input. Not just consuming but consuming mostly s what I really meant

if you actually want to read the dialogue and mine words then you need a working texthooker because it's going to be a garbage experience trying to look up every sentence without it

How does the order of conjugating a verb work?
Like if I want to say, "they are being saved" (passive form) and add "あげる" to it, is it

助けられる ->  助けられてあげる
or
助けてあげる -> 助けてあげられる

Or are both correct?

probably 助けられてあげる since 助け and あげる are being done by the subject and the られて is being done by the receiver. the other way would imply the 助け and られる is done by the same person.

In Japanese, the order of verb conjugation follows a specific pattern, with each conjugation modifying the verb stem in a specific way.

To express the passive form of a verb in Japanese, the verb stem is modified using the auxiliary verb "られる" (rareru). This verb is placed after the verb stem, followed by any other conjugations that may be needed.

For example, to express the passive form of the verb "助ける" (to save), the verb stem "助け" is modified using the auxiliary verb "られる" to form "助けられる" (to be saved).

To add the verb "あげる" (to give) to the sentence, it is placed after the verb stem "助け" in the te-form, followed by the auxiliary verb "られる" and any other conjugations that may be needed.

So, in this case, the correct order of verb conjugation would be:

助けられる -> 助けてあげられる (to be saved and given)

Alternatively, you could also say:

助ける -> 助けられてあげる (to be saved and given)

Both of these constructions are correct and convey the same meaning.

Anki buries a card if you hit again 5 times within 24 hours by default. What I'm saying is that I hit again maybe 3 or 4 times when a kanji is new before I remember it, so the next day often it hasn't been exactly 24 hours (more like 22 or 23) and I don't remember it (which is most of the time,) when this same kanji comes up for review I'll hit again and that'll be 5 times within 24 hours so it gets buried, which means it won't show up until the next day.

Ichidan verbs unfortunately write passive and potential the same. You can write different things if you need to be explicit.
助けてあげる I'll save you
助けてあげられる I'll be able to save you (pot.)
助けられてあげる I'll let myself be saved for you (pass.)

今晩は皆さん、行きましょうを頑張ってね (attempt at saying we're gonna
make it)

First of all, many thanks to anon that recommended me "nihongo con Tenppei"
Wonderful podcast, and it was just an amazing feeling when it started to click and being able to actually understand whats being said.
Is there a support material for that? I feel, like its part of a bigger nihongo gakkusei thing.
Right now I'm just looking up the main topic and listening in on the rest to understand.

Second, one of the biggest problems for me, was not seeing at all the possibility of getting a job proposal for a working vise in the foreseeable future. Or in other words, no way to actually get into Japan.
But just today, out of pure random luck I saw an feature on a work colleague's IG, advertising just that, an agency opening up to gather work force for Japan.
This lead me to search for others, and mind you its usually bottom level trade work. But for the first time I can actually its gonna be possible to become a reality.

Feels good man, anyone else down in a similar path?

you can watch things even now, even if you don't understand everything
language is an understanding of cause and effect regarding the events in the world, namely, which utterances correspond to which effects.
anime, and most all things with spoken voice make it very clear what the cause effect relationship is, even if you don't understand exactly what each word means, you understand what happens as a result of the words, the tone the character used, the reactions, etc.
eventually your brain associates the words with a meaning, whether it was spelled to you, or not
ie: yamero, tasukete, onegai, all the random meme japanese words people picked up on /a/ over time merely as a result of repetition
it just feels weird at first because human brains like understanding things and japanese sounds very very strange until you get used to it

When I go to Japanese input, I have to change to hiragana (top bit) every time for each individual window of a program I'm using, then it stays like that. Is there a way to keep it on hiragana only by default? The other options don't do anything for me

For some reason you can't- you can set default languages, but not the default sub-input method for those languages which seems really dumb. It basically just means I have to press a hotkey or click a menu after pressing the initial hotkey anytime I want to actually input

Why do gods from some mythological systems get 神 (shin) affixed to their names and those from others don't?
I thought it had to do with how those mythologies were translated and published in Japan by different authors, but I'm not 100% sure.

I feel like using English subtitles is effective if you focus on the audio,
and try to match it with words. It takes me 1 second to read a sentence in English, while vocalizing Japanese sentence takes around 5 seconds or more.

one of the characters (neon) noticed a shower, then the protagonist narrated this line:

ネオンは軽い足取りで走っていた
キョッキョッ(sound of turning the shower)

when I read it the first time to me it says "neon ran slowly (towards the shower I guess)" but it doesn't make sense to say it like that, since 足取り can mean movement and 走って can mean to flow something, does it actually means that she let the shower flow with a light movement ..?

Do you think it makes sense to get confused like this? Sometimes I worry if I'm too dumb for japanese

the game is nikke

I see now, he's referring to the シャワー室, this happens to me all the time also, I isolate the sentences and forget what they were talking about, and I also need to read the jap dics, only the english dic says 足取り can mean movement but it's always refers to walking. Thanks broski
