Lower-left corner as Reimu.

Safe spot.

Or, hot-shot it in the gap that appears *just* above the death fairy in your screenshot. The gap revolves, so you must also, but this is the proper way to beat it. Watch youtube videos.

Imperishable Night is many peoples' favorite Touhou game. I've seen it come out in top in many polls.

I'm more into Subterranian Animism (and Shoot The Bullet), but I think th08's (extremely) forgiving death-bomb window makes it more accessible.

It's a waste of time to discuss the difficulty of Touhou games on /jp/. We're full of elitist faggots who aren't satisfied simply shitting on people who don't play the games at all. It's some kind of proud achievement to die over and over again until you memorize the patterns well enough not to anymore.

That's how you get "good" at any shooter. Die enough, and you'll do alright.

"More accessible" often is an euphemism for "easier". (I'm programmer for one of the largest game publishers, and I hear the former term quite a bit)

However, the real value of the longer death-bomb window isn't merely to make the game easier (if you need the long window, you're still going to lose the game).

Rather, the long window gives the player moments where they feel like they've playing the game well: "Yes! I just barely bombed in time to save my life!".

I'd also argue the longer death-bomb window shouldn't be frowned upon by the elite players. It encourages a playstyle where one actually attempts to capture every single spellcard, rather than bombing prematurely on spellcards that always give you trouble. Eventually, once you learn the tricks, you won't *need* the long window 'cause you won't get hit.

There are reliable ways to deal with all the fairies in Extra.

Seriously, watch youtube videos (the user Kefit is exceedingly good). They're the best way to learn that level.

Curious: Have you beaten Mokou yet? I'm guessing not, if you still have difficulty with the level itself. Mokou is my favorite Extra boss. Her spellcards are so extremely fun to learn and dodge. And her Last Word is such a wonderful way to end that fight.

Nobody's at the top or bottom of their game at all times. Sometimes you get dumb beginner's luck and make a move that should be stupid but winds up squeezing through because you didn't know any better, sometimes your focus is stone cold unbroken, you know exactly what's coming, and you fly smack into a bullet anyway.

Those odd early successes are sometimes called "flukes" or "beginners' luck."

Maybe I just need more practice on SA, but I can reliably beat IN's Extra (often w/ last word!), but I can barely get to the boss in SA's Extra, let alone past the first few of her attacks.

Yeah, me neither.

It seems so defeatist that non-IN touhous practically *encourage* you to bomb certain difficult cards BEFORE you get hit.

I bet ZUN got a lot of negative feedback on IN's death-bombing window, which is a pity. Personally, I might scale it back on Hard/Lunatic difficulties, and even a *little* on Normal, but not remove it entirely like he did.

Deathbombs in IN are ridiculous. They reward you for getting hit (when focused, which is most of the time). Rather than trying to outlast a spellcard and only bombing when you think there is no escape from death, you can choose to deathbomb to almost instantly win. For those cards you just can't beat, the two bomb penalty for deathbombs is generally a safer investment than the potential 2 or 3 weak focus bombs you might waste just trying to survive.

Not to mention the boring repetitive non-boss bullet patterns that are almost identical throughout the entire game.
