yeah you can, japs and chinks read just as fast as englishers if not faster
they read kana super fast liek we read the alphabet, by having their brains automatically decide what a word is before even bothering to inspect all the kana, isntead of awkwardly stringing the syllables together like we do as beginners.
and words with kanji don't require a close look either most of the time, they look like the words, you just have to see the big picture.

12 encounters to memorize a word
in wareya's frequency data, 30k level words show up about 0.15 times per million
0.15 goes into 12 80 times

to naturally learn 30k words, you would therefore have to read/listen to 80,000,000 words

using wareya's stats + that animelon analysis (i think from reddit?), average anime cour (12 eps) contains roughly 30k words
thus you would need to watch around 2650 anime to reach a vocab level of 30k naturally

requirements for 20k are much lighter, on the other hand

20,000th most frequent word in japanese shows up about 0.7 times per million words, which means we would need to read/hear approx. 17,000,000 words (rather than the 80,000,000 to get the 30k word) to remember it naturally

this translates to roughly:
570 anime cours (570 12ep anime)
1700 manga vols
34 average length vinnies
280 ln volumes

whereas the 30k vocab requirements equated to 10k hours of input, these 20k vocab requirements translate to ~2.25 hours of input

seems like a more sensible goal for those who just want to enjoy japanese media and don't care about wanking off over discord quizzes and reading streams

fortunately vbijin have 10 to 20x the word density of most anime depending on the vbijin

>> No.42238022

friendly reminder:
v美人 are the next best thing to a japanese mom:

-cute
-constant dialogue
-descriptive dialogue
-VERY language dense, they never shut up
-conversational cadence
-cant be mined if you are watching in real time, nor paused (so you have to pay attention and your brain is in do or die mode)
-if they are playing a game you already played (recent banjo kazooey streams with kone), you already have the english translation of everything in mind, but even if you haven't played the game, they describe everything they are doing.
-they activate the natural "want to understand what the cute girl is saying" part of the brain
-a lot of variety
-essentially always on

probably the next best thing to conversations with nips, but they have the added benefit that you do not have to carry the conversation or keep it alive, the vbijin does that herself. essentually you get a girl talking to you and describing everything for 1 to several hours.

v美人 are THE path to true fluency!

Chinese (at least the written, Classical form) is actually not very difficult to learn, especially coming from an Anglophone background: same basic sentence structure, zero inflection, simple grammar, etc.

I still don't understand your problem... even if you have trouble connecting a specific concept to a kanji, that doesn't stop you from at least doing rote memorization of the english meaning.

I guess if you know you're having trouble making a mental model for kanji I'd say try going to an example sentence website like https://sentencesearch.neocities.org or https://gogakuru.com/english/phrase/genre/index.html?func=top&condKeyword=%E5%87%BA%E7%99%BA&x=28&y=7 (or just google) and absorbing the kind of context they come in. I try to do that for learning the difference between annoying near-synonymous words like 制作 and 製作

I just freely mix sentence and vocab cards in my mining deck, the differences are frankly trivial and both will help you but here's how I see it
if you find a word to mine in a sentence that you can easily read, but it contains words and or grammar apart from the unknown word which you can easily read but haven't acquired yet to the extent that you notice and understand them when listening, that sentence is worth mining. not only are you using the card to help you acquire the reading of the word you couldn't read when you found it, but you're also learning a bit more than that too. this can make the card a bit more time consuming though, so it's a trade off. additionally, countless words are just easier to feel with a sentence around them.
vocab cards are better for words which neither require a sentence/context or a dictionary definition but just a single English translated word to define. oh 総帥 is basically a dictator? ok I'll just make that a vocab card, and maybe the sentence you found it in is so easy it's not worth reviewing anyway, but you couldn't read 総帥 when you found it so just make it a word card, ez pz. put the j-j definition on the back just for the nuance but it's no big deal
