You've got points (5 for each routes + max score) to spend on various bonuses and you can access other routes after you first cleared it.
But overall you'll be grinding again.

I'm fine up to the demon army, then shit just gets overwhelming. 90% of my commanders are all 7's and 1000+ troops.

Which route do you recommend doing Orochi in? I'm in Isoroku Route right now (I wanted to capture Takeda, but I'm not strong enough to deal with 2500 units of cheap ass Calvary, so I guess I'm going to reload and finish them while they're still grouping up.)

After this comes Kenshin and then Ran. Which one is best? And what prep should I do to prepare for him?

The Demon army gets worn down over time. If I can handle them on my first lulz bad playthrough, you'll be fine (I didn't attack any nations that left me alone, and my reward was watching everyone who was left over die a terrible death.)

I'll give you a tip. Increase your Footsoldier troops when you can.
Never buy any other troops than footsoldier troops, only let them grow naturally after each fight.

If you invest your money on footsoldier, you should have some easier games.

A time skip will set you up so you take everything but 4 countries of the demon army's. In the mean time, worry about defending, going through dungeons to get levels for your commanders, doing Kentarou's advendtures, and doing searches for gear to make sure your highest level and most useful commanders are better equipped for Xavier.

Very late. I think it happened to me after turn 100 my first play through, but its been a while.

Take out Hara, Ashikaga, then grab Akashi for good measure. Take out Tokugawa as soon as possible and take out Imagawa if you feel like it. Get the Miko Mansion, then Uesugi - declare two-front war on Uesugi and Hojou if you feel like getting some of both without leaving any to Takeda.
Hang around and do dungeons (get Rance to 65+ first chance you get) until Demon Army resurfaces, get down to slaughtering demons first chance you get after the Shimazu blitz. Hang around until the timeskip, take out the shogun in Shinano and invade One-Eye. Bleed One-Eye dry and take them down, recruit all five of their commanders. Get speed luck for Omachi and enjoy the slaughter.

Works every time.

Is conquering Hara, Ashikaga, Tenshi, Askura, not doing any dungeons (didn't know much about it works), and being at war with Uesugi still viable, or should I restart again? (oh and four seals broken at turn 37 with two Zeth reinforcements, musket girl, Yamamoto, and some those recruitable characters are basically what I've got, besides the ones you start with).

Don't do any dungeons until after you have kenshiin and kentarou, maybe Uruza too. You want them all to get the benifits, due to their high max level. If you are thinking of taking one eye on, wait for masamune for dungeons too.

He is now. What he used to be, nobody really knows. Different characters alternately state that Shingen is either deceased since a long way back, or that he's a phantom figure altogether and may never have existed.

In either case, it's a pretty impressive feat. In the least, Shingen has survived his own death by 24 years.

You may want to try covert actions to lower their morale and troop size, and then spend a satisfaction bonus on that Weakened Enemy Territories option.

This option only exists if you get Kenshiin to 100 points, then you can auto conquer anything you want. Until then, you will need to get her to aprox level 63 with either the 100 damage sword, -100 damage armor, or protection paper to beat baba and then conquer Takeda. After that, try to either muscle down Takuga to cure Mouri, and then beat him. If all else fails, beat easier commanders while leaving Takeda alone (The gun girl, Gon, both generics and mouri works, if Xavier hasn't already ruined that for you.)

Assuming you are not on some kind of crazy Kenshiin point run or something, I would think your best bet is to ignore Takeda and try to invade mouri's easternmost territories to get ready for Takuga's arrival, while playing defense on both sides (even if it means invade once per turn and then leave everyone else to defend.) When Takuga shows up, wreck their shit, defeat Gon, then cure Mouri. Chances are, if you are even considering taking on Baba, your Kenshiin is already ready to take on Mouri, so you could scoop up a quick 40 points, assuming Xavier doesn't snipe one of them before you do.

I would consider using any sat bonus you have left over on weakening both countries, which will make invading and defending wildly easier.
