It technically does, but it considers targets of up to two levels above the player acceptable. If you really want to defeat such opponents you can probably grind enough combat xp in the ten days you get for the request to even the odds a little, or you can just immediately cancel the request if you really think it impossible. There's no penalty for cancelling a request.

Then because immortality was a topic of the other conversations, Reimu asks Marisa if she'll become a proper Magician, and it ends.
I expect there will be more to it, because immortality and Reimu killing any human that becomes a youkai has been a serious part of Marisa's talks before this.

Favor gems, which come from raising the Favor palam level for the day (those bars under the Palam dropdown that that go from level 0 to 15). You get a fixed amount favor gems at the end of the day based on how high you got that level, which automatically get put towards raising the intimacy level.

Other era trainers let you spend the gems how you like after training, and TW inherited this system by virtue of being an era game, which is why it seems needlessly complex.

Alright, I think I finally cracked the code on date forgiveness. It wasn't easy, because the code seriously looks like it was written by a schizophrenic monkey, where like 90% of the code either does nothing, is utterly incoherent, or just written in the absolute worst possible way imaginable. Gems in general are absolute garbage in how they're handled in this game, but this is seriously something else in just how impossibly retarded it all is. I can only imagine this was copypasted from a completely different game and then never looked at or used by anyone.

In the end, from what I could decipher, the *only* thing that matters is having at least half the Favor Gems needed to reach the next level of Intimacy. Of course, since Favor gems are only dispensed at the end of a day, the actual date doesn't mean jack shit, and this can only trigger on a day where you already have the needed gems. The mechanism is just impossibly backwards in every way.
