if you ahve enough basics and/or context clues like having seen it befor ein a language you know or visual hints to be able to follow the plot, you are learning when you're inputting. As long as you can follow the plot and there's language you don't know yet, you are getting stuff out of it. Your problem is you expect too much immediate feedback. It's like exercising. Exercising doesn't make you stronger until you wake up from a good night's sleep afterward. It's the same wtih your unconscious mind ABSORBING the language, you have to input to earn language tickets which you redeem in bed

if you've already met your daily mining quota you can just fucking let it play until you don't have anymore time for entertainment media for the day. but it also depends on your mood. sometimes you're in the fuckign dictionary zone, and you look up literally every word you don't know. if it's FLOWING like that you shouldn't force yourself to stop it cause something very effective is happening there when you're enjoying it, but by default absolutely just let it play and don't worry about unknown words
