Rin isn't a Mary Sue first and foremost because she's a character with flaws she has to overcome during the course of the story. She is emotionally vulnerable and ends up leaning on Shirou for support. She struggles with expressing what she feels for others. She is clumsy and her inability to live up to the unachievable perfectionist standard she sets for herself ends up negatively impacting her self-esteem. And so and so forth. The powerlevels horseshit is ultimately irrelevant. I was just pointing out that given her feats in the VN, Rin will most likely be a mage of "can defeat Servants in certain conditions" calibre at her peak. We should probably strike a balance between calling her an overpowered Mary Sue and claiming her only real achievement is her using the Jeweled Sword Zelretch, because neither are true.

Not really. Shirou kind of has the personality of a wet towel outside of the dramatic scenes. He doesn't have anywhere near as much charisma as Shiki or Soujuurou do. Sometimes his bluntness can be endearing, but most of the time he's just boring and is playing the straight man to more entertaining characters. And god forbid he's in a scene alone with another charisma vacuum like Sakura. My thoughts of Guda/Mashu are similar to Shiki/Akiha and the maids, they don't have a dynamic I like because is way too emotionally dependent (Maybe Red Garden will change my mind about Akiha and the Maids/Shiki). I don't like that in a romantic couple.

Shiki/Mashu unironically could be better than any of those options as are independent individuals with already a grown experience that's partly about how life is finite. So feels more equal (this doesn't mean I hate Guda, either, but the relationship with Mashu doesn't appeal me).

Do people not understand the meaning of magnum opus? It doesn’t have to be the agreed upon best work objectively. It’s just the work of art artistically that is their most important work for the artist artistically. He’s always described Mahoyo as his most personal work and the one that was given the most passion and the one he’s the most proud of. It’s hard to argue with how great of an artistic accomplishment it is. You can think other works are better and I may agree with you, but it’s certainly the peak that he’s reached this far and will be hard to climb given how excellent everything about it is and is hard to replicate. They even talk about it this in the making of TsukiR with BLACK saying that his scripting can’t match what Mahoyo did.
