Why would I pay for censored porn? Same reason I pirate all of my animes. The western releases are censored so I'd rather just save my money and pirate the uncensored release. Though some western physical distribution companies do use the uncensored japanese bluray release instead of the censored western streaming release and I buy those for series I really enjoyed.

If they didn't put mosaics and DRM into all of their titles, they'd easily be the most popular western VN publisher but for whatever reason they're completely set on half-assing everything they do and fucking over paying customers instead of just providing a quality product and service.

I'm actually kind of suprised Rance games are doing so well on the JAST store. I figured most people already either bought them from Mangagamer or just pirated them.

For those who are unaware of Johren and why it's so disliked by nearly everybody, it's because DMM (the billion dollar corporation that owns Johren and Shiravune) are very heavy into censoring games (and not just with mosaics, they also change almost entire games, like in the case of Doukyuusei), they don't take credit cards unless it has this obscure function to it that almost no credit cards have, so people have to get their pretend Johren money from a sketchy-looking site called "offgamers" if they want to buy their games, their DRM is so bad that, if a person uses more than a few activation codes, then their site suggests to "re-buy the game", which is completely anti-consumerist, and they rarely respond to fan feedback, instead choosing just to ignore constructive criticism, and their closest thing to fan interaction is mostly just announcing their Johren-exclusive games, which then often go on sale, because they're selling terribly as a result of how terrible DMM/Johren/Shiravune are at running a consumer-friendly business.
Even if all Shiravune games were released on JAST today, I still wouldn't buy them, I have no interest in doing so. I went on the English Johren Discord, and the first comment I read is that the staff don't really use their Discord, nor do they seem to use the Shiravune Discord often, so I'm just gonna focus my attention on playing the hundreds of visual novels I'm interested in reading published by companies that actually seem to care about providing high quality service to the costumers (JAST, MangaGamer, Sekai Project, Denpasoft ect.), instead of wanting an anti-consumerist corporation (DMM) to put their games on other platforms.
If Johren wants censored releases, I disagree, but that's their right to do so, but I really don't think Johren should be allowed to take away games paying customers bought because of terrible DRM.
Johren is a pro-censorship and anti-consumer company that provides games more for "rent" than "buy" with their few activation code limits, and if you use those, then you no longer own the game you bought with actual money, and that actual money probably had to be spend on another site called offgamers, because Johren doesn't take many credit cards, and even then it's not guaranteed that the payment will go through.

I posted this long dramatic message that details why it'd make incredible business sense if Johren put their games on JAST USA (and vise-versa) on the Shiravune Discord:

"I, like many other visual novel fans, think Shiravune releases some great games and visual novels on Johren. But the things that many are less keen on, however, are the censorship, DRM of any kind, but especially the kind that involves games only having a few activations which, if used, then requires another purchase of the same game they already bought (I think when people buy games then they should own those games), and the fact that many have difficulties actually buying games on Johren with their credit cards, so they resort to buying coins on a site like off gamers, and even that doesn't always seem to work, either.

All of those disappointing things decrease interest in all games exclusive to Johren, which is sad, because some of your games really are great. So my recommendations are to maybe think about making the site more user-friendly and work together with other companies to increase interest in your games to many more people.

How bad though? I think have read all translated N+ VN from Phantom, Demonbane to Muramasa and all of them are pretty good except for Gekkou because it has bad pacing but everything else from music, char design etc are good.
