Also, 漢字辞典 don't help neither, either use related words nor the kanji compounds don't mean anything of interest (面 means face and 倒 collapse, so no idea what does this thing to do with "trouble" 面倒)

When reviewing vocab, how long do you give yourself to answer before counting it as a miss? Like if it take you more than 15 seconds or so to recall, do you consider it known or mark it wrong to be reviewed again?

Generally I prefer hinative, since it's meant to be native speakers answering questions, but ymmv. You need a better 漢字辞典, then. 漢字源, for instance, specifically lists 面倒 as a uniquely Japanese compound (in other words, it wouldn’t make any sense to a Chinese reader either). The Japanese inventions are usually fairly opaque when considering the meanings of the individual characters, or they’re 当て字, and mean nothing at all, like 怪我.

In you’re not quite ready ready for J-J dictionaries alone yet, cross-reference them with one good J-E one. It’s more work at first, but you’ll get a much better feel for the words that way.
