Alright I went through installing the dependencies and ran it
It works.
It's an incredibly more complex setup than kanjitomo, but it works at least.
You have to take a picture of the whole desktop, then select the area you want to ocr. if it's successful, you then get to paste the ocr'd word into a dictionary to get the meaning. Did I get it right?
With Kanjitomo I just had to move my mouse to a word and it showed me the meaning.

I think you're making it more complicated than it is. It's not as easy as installing from a package manager but it's relatively easy:
git clone https://github.com/bluaxees/Poricom.git
pip install -r requirements.txt
cd code/
python3.9 main.py
Click okay for the load ocr model and wait a few seconds for it to load. Go to controller and select the shortcut which you want. Minimize the program and open https://learnjapanese.moe/texthooker.html.. If you don't already have a popup dictionary like yomichan then install one. Also, install https://github.com/kmltml/clipboard-inserter and make sure you enable it. After that just hit your shortcut and select the text which you want to grab. The text should appear in the upper-left hand of your screen. Make sure it grabbed it correctly because it isn't perfect. Then your text should appear in the texthooker page and then you can just use yomichan to easily search up the words. Sorta similar process to grabbing text from vns. There may be more efficient ways but this works for me at least.

>> No.42010516

>>42010487
Serious question. Have you ever actually tried reading native material before? Or are you one of those retards who attempts to write kanji they don't know into google translate?

>> No.42010565

>>42010491
I already got it working. The usage process is just clunky. But at least it works, and the ocr is more accurate than kanjitomo so that's something.
If you haven't tried it yet, do give kanjitomo a shot. It's incredibly straightforward. just point your mouse over a word and it'll give you the dictionary result. You don't even need to click or anything. just enable automatic scan and point the cursor.

>> No.42010674

>>42010565
Just saw a youtube video on its usage and yeah it does seem better. Even if it's faster I'll probably stick with poricom. I noticed when I was watching anime that the ability to shift over all those words instantly really wasn't good for me. I think being forced to scan them individually will force you to slow down a bit and increase your vocab retention.

同訓異字 like 成る and 為る are fairly tricky in their nuance and best avoided if you don’t know what you’re doing, and by “know what you’re doing”, I mean have very good understanding of kanbun and the nuances of the individual characters.

There’s no real reason to avoid kanji for things in the natural world like 蝙蝠 or 蚯蚓, unless you’re using the more scientific, general term for the type of creature, then go with katakana like everyone else.

42011196

>>42011065
ゲームを為る is fine, excepting that no one ever uses 為 for する, except when rarely necessary to disambiguate, but you have to remember that in general, these characters represent very different words in Chinese which *happen* to map to the same morphemes in Japanese.

なる carries a very basic meaning of “to be, to become, to form, to resolve, to come into existence”, but 為, 成 and, say, 生 all have different Chinese sound values (生 and 成 differ slightly in Chinese phonology, though they’re probably related), which reflects the fact that they are similar, but related words. You can’t just always note that kanji X and Y both have the Japanese reading *** and conclude they can therefore be used interchangeably.

If you really want explore the finer nuances, you need a proper character reference in which you can examine the differences in the original Chinese. If you don’t want to go quite that far, some dictionaries like 明鏡 will include short notes on kanji usage.

Pic is its entry for なれる, showing that info.

>Hello, Okabe. While scrolling through your Twitter, I noticed that a foreigner had asked you a question about Lukyon virginity, and you replied with "no," but later said "yes" when they asked you again. When reading Sekai Oni, I always viewed Lukyon as a virgin, as nothing in the manga suggests that she was sexually abused. Only being physically abused by Seshio and hearing you say Lukyon was not a virgin was shocking, but was it honest? I mean, it was a random foreigner asking you about a character's virginity. So I would like to get an honest answer from you: was Lukyon a virgin or not? If she is not a virgin, is it because she was poked by Seshio or somebody else?

New to the thread, already been learning Japanese using other resources, I have a question.

It seems like most things for learning Japanese from English are planted pretty firmly in teaching you keigo. I realized the other day that though I have a vocabulary that's growing at a nice pace, I don't know how to drop the level of formality of my speech.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can learn the informal versions of words that I know? I feel like I have no idea what word endings I even need to replace the -masu, -shimasu, etc.

That’s a good summation. Also the reason I fucking loathe 書き換え like, say, 常とう手段. Just write the freaking kanji and include furigana if you think the average reader won’t know it. I think you’re focusing a bit too much on intellectually analyzing the grammar, rather than just feeling it out from the context.

だけ functions grammatically like a noun, and therefore attached to the entire phrase ending in なった. Think of that as the delineating element.

As the other anon said, なんて effectively nominalises — with a sense of annoyance or incredulity — the phrase it follows.

Also けど does not appear in that text.

Ah, sorry. I’m afraid I know nothing of Czech grammar, so can’t see things from your perspective.

Yeah, Jap has no grammatical case at all, but post-positional particles serve that function. You could kind of consider auxiliary verbs as conjugations, especially since they usually attach to only certain inflections.

Want my advice? I think you’d greatly benefit from a good book on formal, Classical Japanese grammar. I think it would suit your learning style.

No problem, mate.

I feel like you have a more analytic-type mind, much like mine, and so we tend to become hyper-focused on the structure of the grammar. If I’m correct about this, then a good, solid understanding of *formal* grammar — as opposed to shit like so-called “te-forms” or “masu-forms”, etc. — will help you.

The grammar book is English, but very well-written. Formal Japanese grammar is also extremely regular. Its contents might not all be immediately useful to you, but it should greatly help you parse the grammar which is causing you problems.

You’ll make it if you keep at it.

I’ve been studying for years, but I remember obsessing about this particle or that inflection, and how some form did not perfectly fit the patterns I’d been taught, and was therefore Horribly Wrong.

When I first started studying kanbun, it would literally take an hour to parse a single, complex sentence. Now, it’s almost as simple as reading English.

Just try not to get too bound up in grammatical rules, and think more about the context of the whole. Use a J-J dictionary only when you become ready for it.

you cant save time! it will be used no matter what
your choice is to spend hours in one sentence, or to cover tens of maybe hundreds of them in the same time
thing is japanese is vast, to make it you need to learn some 20k words plus, this means that to make it in any reasonable amount of time you need to prioritize
is that one sentence really that important, or would it be better to cover 10 or 20 or 100?
as for me, i used to do what you do, moving on and not worrying too much about it worked better
if you still feel like you do at say 8 months or a year, worry then
2 months isn't enough for anything

the reason is because women's brains will make a man sexually attractive if she gets charmed while spending time with him. that's why dating apps are so bad for men, because with all of that gone women have nothing to go off of but looks, and guess what typically men are way uglier than women lol, and naturally they'll go for height etc.
this is also why onlien fangirls go for bizarre non-sexual characters and want to fuck them, like sans the skeleton and stuff, because he charmedt hem during the cutscenes and dialogue etc, causing their brains to make him sexy for them.

Honestly, unless you've already been giving a connecting opportunity by circumstance, figuring out how to talk to someone you're interested in for the first time is hard. Partly because you have no idea what might fly with them from having no experience to draw from, and partly because you're likely to hesitate at the idea that it might not work out. Which, there's billions of people living on this planet who are all different, living different lives, and like different things, so of course no approach is foolproof. You have to learn to set your expectations to the fact that you may very well fail when you try and try anyway.

>>42028321
>IQ
lol. lmao.

Simply put, humans are only so good at processing shit about themselves. We're social creatures, so having a person who can listen to us and help us dissect our thoughts and feelings can be very useful, especially for matters that are outside of what most people commonly understand. Therapy could be useful for basically anyone, regardless of whether they have serious "issues" or not, because talking things out with people can be good for one's own understanding of oneself.

is iq not better used finding out the way to get the things you desire than trying to convince yourself its pointless to even try?
if you truly are high iq, and its not just cope, then it should be possible
hell if you can learn Japanese, it should be possible
i think most high iq robots just really deep inside it takes quite a bit of work and give up
but honestly someone who can learn Japanese, can do anything.

I can't for the life of me fathom why people get so down on themselves for not immediately grasping what is one of the most difficult languages to pick up from English. You can see the hunger to learn, but there's also all this frustration for some reason. It's a process, and whenever you get stuck, you shouldn't wallow in not understanding it.

You should go look up the thing you don't get. Dissect it down to its furigana so you can be extra sure you understand what it is your weak human ears are picking up. Dissect the characters in the kanji for meaning. Repeat exposing yourself to it over and over. Compare it to other words you know where the kanji includes the same characters being used for the same meaning. But don't just go わかりません and then let yourself get 悔しい.

If you’re going for kanken 1, the scope is about 6000字, but that hides the amount of knowledge you need about each and every one of them.

If you care about that kind of subtle difference, read a native dictionary. If you can't read a native dictionary then why would you care.

Personally 果たす reminds me of the word 結果, so maybe it sounds like an accomplishment.
