I own a kobo libra 2, I'm going to assume the following is as true for the sage (IIRC they have the same cpu?)
It's pretty good IMO, as long as you're willing to install KOReader ofc.
Without koreader it's worthless, because the default reader can't parse japanese text, so when you try to look up a word you have to carefully select exactly the word which is just unacceptably slow. Ko reader on the other hand works like yomichan, just select where the word starts and the parsing is accurate and quick.
Highligting is also very very easy, and once you have the highlights, you can just use the app kohighlights to directly export all of them, even directly in HTML, at that point it's trivial to quickly make all your anki cards.

Do you have experience reading manga on it? Was hoping to do it on the kindle but the zoom is so clunky. I just read that the battery on Sage is even worse with Koreader so maybe Libra 2 of Forma would be better

>>41957960
it's grand for books but even stuff like exporting highlights is a pain (cuts off the end of the sentence)

>> No.41958018

>>41957983
I have read some manga on it, but it's only suitable for that if you read them in english or if you're already very fluent in JP. Otherwise it's too small.
Honestly even the bigger sage IMO is not suitable for manga. If you want to read those, ANY cheap tablet (heck even my 6.5" phone) is way way way better than basically any ereader. The moment you have to zoom even once ereaders just shit all over the place.

the eyestrain from my iPad Mini (the one from last year, can't remember the number) hurts my eyes after even just a half hour. Sounds like I should stick to books until I'm better

>> No.41958058

>>41958046
If you want to read jp books etc, the kobo libra 2 with koreader earns high recommendations from me.
However if you also want to read manga on it and a tablet doesn't do it for you, the only thing I'd consider is a 10" ereader.
The new kindle scribe is way too compromised an experience IMO, so I can't recommend it, but if you look around for android equipped ereaders with a 10" you should find a few.

I just tweaked the settings on my tablet to reduce eyestrain and it looks a lot more readable already.

I hadn't realised ereaders were universally clunky for manga but I suppose they're not built for it at all.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll get the Sage or the cheaper Forma/ Libra 2 since Koreader seems to be the way to go for JP books

i was born and raise in england and have no idea about grammer or sentence structure, or verb states and irregular nouns and trasnsitive blah blah, i just know it through living it, i cant tell you why something goes in the order it does, it just feels right, so why bother doing this shit with another language?

Two questions for all the JLPT bros who took it yesterday:

1. Was there any “ten minutes remaining” or any other kind of warning before “PENCILS DOWN”? I’ve taken other 資格 here, and there was always a warning, but not this time. Fuckers.

2. How was the sound system for the listening section? We had a goddamn boom box straight from the fuckin’ nineties at the front of the room. Could barely make the shit out.

I *probably* passed, but I really feel the way the test was given was not entirely fair, and that is not a complaint I can make about other 資格: they’re hard but fair. This, however...

The first is official; the latter is based on it, but not quite “official”

There is *absolutely no limit* to what they will test. They can and will test shit that does not occur even in the official books. I’ve once had to look up an answer in the original, Classical Chinese; no Jap; Book Of Changes, or something.

Start with 準一級. Go from there. 準一級 and 一級 are completely different animals.

Also outside Japan, the testing centers are far less accessible, some people drive long miles, and even fly to their nearest testing center. Some even go to a different country for it.
So it makes sense that people only go if they're very certain that they will pass.

It's because women are more social than men. They talk and use the language they're learning more. Most languages aren't like Japanese or English with infinite quality immersion content. You're gonna have to talk to people if you want to become fluent in most languages.

Also women gravitate more towards liberal arts and useless skills (such as language learning) as opposed to men who all get STEM degrees and become programmers making 6 figures.

Depends a lot on the community. Probably the most elitist and toxic one is DJT (Daily Japanese thread from 4chan) but the people there are also the most skilled imo. Under N4 people cant even access the server and the average user there is probably N2-N3. It is super toxic tho. The environment is not at all positive but some people thrive in hyper competitive spaces like that. There is a ranking system in the server that's based on your skills which I find kinda funny. Everyone can see your "rank" at all times so higher ranked people make fun of ranks lower than them constantly. I've talked to the mods and some of the highest ranking people there and they're usually really nice to talk to. It's just that the community originates from 4chan so in general the place isn't very friendly.

One of the elitist things that happens there is that everyone thinks their method is the best and everyone else is inferior. DJT has their method which mainly focuses on reading. Matt vs Japan has his own method that he thinks is the best and so on

Servers like TheMoeWay are a lot friendlier and more useful.
