It went nowhere, nobody answers to my job applications and due to me being a massive retard I also screwed myself from getting any social support till end of this year.
Family considers me a failure and I'm genuinely embarrassed to ask for help.
I have like a dollar on my bank account and empty wallet. I don't even have money to buy rope to hang myself. If not winter and few hobbies keeping me at home, I would probably go and jump from our local bridge.

Anon, I wish you a speedy recovery and a bright future ahead of you.

Perhaps even some porn-grade sex sometime in the future.

I do have some practical advise to give you, one that can be applied both in your current state AND when you're in a better situation. Life really is about perspective. I'm not talking about "seeing the full part of the glass" or any Chinese fortune cookie stuff. Rather, much of your enjoyment will come on how you look at things. Can you believe there are people out there who are massively successful yet still unhappy?

Here's an example of a perspective: you have an entire free week, of which you can fill with any activity you want. So you do that. Right about every day is filled with movies, games and fitness. From the outside, one may interpret that as you being "cluttered" with no free time, and you go to bed exhausted. But you know better. You're cramming as much fun in one day as possible, then you fall asleep pleasantly exhausted, knowing you'll get your second cake too.

Right now, you are in an excellent position to do the above (and any other hobbies) for 3 reasons: you're not pressured into anything, and your relatives aren't pressuring you into anything. If you missed a train, do you stamp your foot until the next one arrives? That's a gigantic waste of time. Someone telling you to not enjoy anything between the trains is somehow even dumber than someone who missed the train.

And Anon, people aren't gonna complain jack shit about you if they see / hear you doing fitness and your hobbies in the evening.

Faggots here are more likely to be a wannabe NEET's
I kinda wonder how many legit hikikomori do we have here

>> No.41952032

>>41950913
They're still around, but it's true the past few NEET threads have people who are more just reclusive workers than legitimate hikki.

I have a chronic health condition that makes it difficult to leave the house. I haven't worked a real job in my entire life and I'm 25 now, soon to be 26. I've barely spoken to anyone since middle school since I was homeschooled, and have no friends either in real life or online.

It's easy to glorify being neet/hikki when you're young, since you think you're not like most other people and can handle the isolation. But as you start to get older it does eventually take it's toll on you, as you realize you have less and less options for getting yourself out of it. Even your online friends will either end up living some degree of a normal life, or collapsing under stress and have a mental break, acting nothing like who they were before and eventually gensokyo themselves or just delete their online presence.

It's a pretty common story, but yeah as you get older it does get pretty depressing, especially once you stop feeling fulfillment from the things you like. Honestly I'd hope most legitimate hikki's at least end up trying to be failed normalfags than living a lonely life of isolation like I've ended up with, it's not anything to be envious of.

>> No.41953312

HikkiNEET for 9 years, never graduated high school, living off of trust fund bucks and inheritance. It's not so bad, I've never understood people complaining about loneliness. Being around other people is much worse. Main issue is boredom and burnout, at which point I have to try and find other hobbies to occupy my time.
Money will last another 12-15 years being frugal, after which I have legitimately no other choice but to kill myself. I'd never land a job or even be able to mentally withstand it. Wanted to try out investing but when you're gambling your entire life on it it can be a frightening prospect.

There are a lot of jobs where they don't give a shit if you're a sperg with no job history. They'll treat you like a machine and if you can be a good machine that doesn't groan or break down like the others, your boss might even come to appreciate you a little. Five years ago, I got a job like this and coasted into my 30s. Now I'm realizing I'll have to go into a profession and get a decent salary if I ever want to have a hope of living independently, but I shudder to think of where I'd be today if I hadn't got this job. What I mean to say is that life is going to kick your ass sooner or later. When that happens it will be worse than you could have imagined, so do whatever it takes to be prepared for it.

'Main deficiency of active people. Active men are usually lacking in higher activity--I mean individual activity. They are active as officials, businessmen, scholars, that is, as generic beings, but not as quite particular, single and unique men. In this respect they are lazy.

It is the misfortune of active men that their activity is almost always a bit irrational. For example, one must not inquire of the money-gathering banker what the purpose for his restless activity is: it is irrational. Active people roll like a stone, conforming to the stupidity of mechanics.

Today as always, men fall into two groups: slaves and free men. Whoever does not have two-thirds of his day for himself, is a slave, whatever he may be: a statesman, a businessman, an official, or a scholar'.

I'm English. Every public service in this country barely functions, and if you don't live in a city your options for schooling are limited because public transport is awful.
My teachers never identified the mental problems that have plagued me throughout my life, which have worsened with age and have turned me into a wreck.
Even if I knew exactly what was wrong with me, the NHS waiting lists are years-long. I don't know what's wrong with me, which would only complicate the issue further.
There are ways for me to go to a good university, but I'm too much of a mental wreck to be able to bring myself to do that. Maybe if I'd had these options available when I was in my late teens, but by the time they became available, years of social isolation and NEETdom had already done their damage to me.
Maybe things are better in continental European countries. This country is like if the worst parts of the EU and the worst parts of the US had a downs syndrome baby.

It actually bothers me a bit that anons feel increasingly compelled to insult people for displaying what is perceived to be a midwit level of intelligence, because:

1. It implies that displaying less intelligence than a midwit ironically makes people avoid even challenging it, likely as a learned response that genuinely low intelligence people can just abuse you with their retardation until they get the last word in, seemingly winning the argument and validating their convictions.

2. Unlike #1, midwits are often open to changing their views and thoughts if someone makes a compelling argument. But that takes a lot more effort than calling them a midwit and denies one an inherent sense of superiority.

Basically it's one of those things that makes for shittier discussion that is also solely the responsibility of anons, many of whom probably choose to come here for the lack of accountability or consequences they would get on other sites.

Anyone else has nostalgia for the NEET culture of the 2000s and to a lesser extent most of the 2010s? I miss when every anime forum/chatroom and every imageboard was like half NEET or more and discussion of NEETdom was largely neutral or positive with any negativity mainly being focused on other people's reactions or the inevitability of having to work eventually for some. NEET threads used to be supremely comfy. Now it just kind of seems like the only thing that gets discussed on NEET threads/imageboards/forums is
>ahhhhh I'm ROTTING I don't do anything!!
>I can't get a girlfriend ahhhh!!!
>I'm just gonna lay down and rot because society
>anyone else GOON to PORN 24/7?
The occasional /jp/ thread and certain other imageboards are usually alright but it honestly feels like NEET communities are getting raided by the incel community and failed normies. Just the constant screaming despair into the void and freakish obsession with sex.

>it honestly feels like NEET communities are getting raided by the incel community and failed normies. Just the constant screaming despair into the void and freakish obsession with sex.
Well, back then things were still pretty "new and exciting" in a way and the internet still had a lot of good vibes. I don't think it's some coordinated raid nowadays so much as just a new generation of people using the internet who are particularly depressed and the old guard finally collapsing under the pressure of society and age.

I've had at least 3 of my old NEET friends from the past ~10 years ago legitimately seem to lose their minds and become borderline insane. Two of them tried to kill to kill themselves and one of them succeeded in it, while the other was perma-fucked up, and the last guy became thoroughly delusional and started talking legitimately about some satanic visions he had and plastering his profiles with pentagrams and swastikas.

I dunno, I just think most people can't handle it for an extended amount of time without some form of meaningful activity to balance it out. The first ~5 years or so may be fine, but it seems like people's faults will gradually get worse in the isolation without them knowing it, until it drifts into extremes as a way of dealing with it. I really think it's important to balance out NEET life with some sort of productive hobby to stay happy.

I think it would be better to say the internet as a whole became more "depressing" though. I miss when you could just goof off with random people in MMOs and have dumb fun randomly hitting people up, these days people mostly just keep to themselves or ignore you if you try to talk to them. I think this kind of mindset is pretty prevalent everywhere now, people are rarely openly chatty or optimistic like they used to be and usually just keep to preestablished cliques.

Probably true. Ironically, women and market forces are to blame for this. Dating apps started ruining society and increasing the incel rate around 2013 or so. The difference is NEETs don't care about that stuff as much while incels are obsessed with it.

I've been a NEET for most of the last decade (with a few short periods of schooling/work in between) and I haven't gone depressed or insane, the worst thing about it is boredom and eventually I find something to do. Being a NEET is the ultimate dream, but it's also unsustainable. I've been at it for 8 years now, but eventually my parents are going to die and I won't be able to leech off of them. The ideal situation is I make a videogame that sells incredibly well and I can live off of that money and return to NEETdom. Before I landed the freelancer thingy I did volunteer work 12h/week for six months and then full-time clerk for a year. I'm 33 and NEET almost all my life.

Is there even any sense in applying for programming jobs if I never even finished college?
I know a bit of react and I did a few games in unity, but I don't really feel like it matters at all

Both actually, money is always a good thing, and I do want to do something with my life that isn't just mindlessly playing games for the first half of the day, and sleeping through the second, contributing to things that other people use must feel nice, idk

what is stopping you from doing that right now? the kind of person who can't set goals and work towards them, even as a NEET will flounder and still struggle when they are getting paid for it

>contributing to things that other people use must feel nice, idk
responsibility, obligation, and the rat race in general doesn't feel nice though

Depends on the country. In some countries it's illegal to not have an engineering degree. Corporations and especially small companies do not care about your education at all. They care only if you have 0 experience and no portfolio so you can show at least something.

Fastest way is webdev or mobile (native ios(swift)/andriod(kotlin)) job. Make a few small fully finished products, a site or an app. There are shit tons of free courses, go through them but don't be too dependant on them. Getting the first job will be the hardest, try to lie on your CV but not too much, companies lie too so don't feel bad about it.

I learned mobile dev in 6 months by watching some indian guy and landed a remote job in a year. But I was learning and doing things for like 16 hours a day because I was tired of being a neet and decided either that or suicide.

However you have to like programming at least to some extent otherwise it's pointless.

yes and no
there are millions of people doing it for money and cushy job alone
the "you need to like programming" gatekeeping era is from before all the normies found out it pays 6 figures for 30 hours of work

Programming is great but doing it for a job is not so cozy. Learn something like compilers or os that has limited commercial use over forgettable garbage like JS and react.

Learn and go outside then. Being a NEET is a blessing, because it allows you to engage with the world without the added weight of exploitative labor, that tires you too much to have fun with your hobbies, takes up most of your day, and reduces your life expectancy by like 10 years.
>contributing to things that other people use must feel nice, idk
It doesn't actually, because the process of work is awful, and you don't see the results of your labor being useful to people, you hand them over to your boss who hands you a part of the money your work was worth in exchange for the labor, which you then use for buying commodities other people have hated making and lining the pockets of corporations. It's quite an alienating cycle, actually. There was a funny man with a beard who wrote a book about this one time in the XIX century
What's with this weird idea that working somehow helps you fix your mental issues? What's actually good for you and might help you is a sense of community, which you may find at work if you're very lucky, but most people never do. If you're damaged, you can unironically only be cured with the power of friendship, not this work bullshit

I'm approaching two years hikkineet now and I'm starting to get extremely anxious almost constantly. I've always been nervous which is why I'm so reclusive but now it's overwhelming me while I'm just sitting in my room. Sometimes even when I'm mentally not worried I still feel that uncomfortable anxious adrenaline feeling. Do you other neets also experience this anxiety and if so how do you handle it?

3 years to get a position in a corpo with a good pay and after 1 year I learned how to do 1 task that takes 4 hours for a week and no one cares. If I was not lazy I would get like 3 parallel jobs. However being junior - middle developer is complete opposite, you don't have enough exp to bullshit yourself through.
