In order to successfully translate Muv-Luv, you have to be able to write an enormous amount of natural conversation and comedy dialogue, especially for Extra. I could translate the military parts and other epic parts pretty well, but I'm not going anywhere near the rest for free. And then there's the constant repetition in Alternative, specifically in Takeru's internal monologue.

So yeah, the only way I can see there being a free translation is by splitting the work between multiple translators.

A Wiki project would be good, something like the translation of Clannad where different people worked on different routes.

If the manga is so easy to translate, why not the game? I'm so confused.

Muv-Luv is HUGE

Doesn't Muv Luv's engine make it impossible to translate the game? I heard it was horribly convoluted.

The difference in amount of dialogue is staggering.

Speaking of which, has anyone been keeping up with the Alternative adaptation?

A Sharin thread and a Muvluv thread in one night? Wow.

I think it'd make people more tempted to contribute, yeah. As it stands I really don't think there are any translators out there who could honestly keep motivation to finish the whole thing and do it well on their own. Wiki projects come with problems of their own, of course, and in the end you'd really need some kind of universal editor/checker to go through everything, who might well end up with the same kind of despair at having to checkedit all of it as a person doing it all from the scratch would... but there are people who find that so much easier than translating from scratch. All in all it's plausible if you could drum up enough interest.

It's difficult, yeah. I don't think anyone's really motivated to work on tools though seen as there's so little interest in terms of translators. Basic rUGP tools exist for KGNE though Muvluv uses a significantly more advanced engine (you only have to play the game for a few minutes to see that). It's not like it's impossible, but you'd need a really good hacker to do it, and of course, no really good hacker is going to waste days, weeks or even months of their time writing tools for a game with no translator interest. And translators even less likely to translate a game without the tools. Vicious cycle.

tl;dr not likely, muvluv will remain with the moonspeakers.
