kirau 嫌う is the verb version (notice the う sound ending)

im pretty sure you already know what the sentence means. は is marking the topic and が marks the subject. in english, we don't mark the topic when we speak, but it's still there. if i randomly said "bugs are hateful", then because it's about emotions, the topic is presumed to be what i feel about bugs. but bugs are still the subject. in japanese it's the same thing, except they will mark the topic. so now we know when i say "bugs are hateful", im not talking about myself, im talking about the girl.

That won't work unfortunately cause you're essentially just viewing picture galleries and there's no way of select the text.
There are two ways i can immediately think of tho:
1, create a mobi file with all the extracted text placed direct after each manga page. Which sounds like an autistic amount of work.
2, find manga with kana reading above the kanji and search via external dictionary. A bit slower but more feasible.

I hope kindle support embedded text over pictures soon... unfortunately that's too sophisticated for an e-reader

Makes perfect sense to me. But let's spell it out, just so be clear: 俺が欲しかったのはこれだ。助かったぞ。

The thing that's liable to trip you up is probably the first sentence, so let's break it down. Often at the beginner level we see が欲しい and the expectation is "alright, the が-marked subject is the thing that is desired, easy". But we also have to remember how things can be modified in Japanese. This isn't assigning the desirability to the が-marked 俺, but instead the 欲しかった is a modifier for the の. So what the heck is the の doing here when it's commonly a possessive? Well, の can also be used as a nominalizer. I'll spare you the technical details and just give you an English example. "I went to the store for a black shirt, but I liked the red one more." You could just as easily say "red shirt" but we use "one" here for...some reason. Same idea here. We're using it to give a non-definitive object that is understood through context. It's the "thing", the "one" that was 欲しかった, "wanted". Taken together, we get 俺が欲しかったのは, "as for the thing which I wanted," これだ, "it is that". Or, more naturally, "that's the thing I wanted". If you somehow got confused on the second sentence then you have my deepest sympathies.

>>41743232
ただ is often used to mean "only" or "just", but unlike だけ the implication is more like "merely". It's *only* a game. You're sick, but it's *only* a cold. It's making a judgment, not just a measurement.

the kanji makes it easier for beginners but for natives idk
they can easily read any kana only RPG with spaces between words and they never get homophones mixed up because of context. just like with actual spoken language they only need the sounds to know which word is being used

kanji is definitely better for out of context stuff like YouTube thumbnails and newspaper headlines though. Korean marketing and stuff is apparently struggling with that since they abandoned kanji and the younger generations don't know any anymore, Korean having tons of homophones like Japanese
