I admit the vn itself isn’t anything special but seeing it go from this pitch posted around to gradually being made was inspiring, and more importantly it got me to start running which was a massive change for my health. The latter point makes it more important to me than other vns that I’ve enjoyed more.

Zero is different from Stay Night. Pretty much all titles in the Fate series are different from Night actually. I like the majority of Fate works and adaptations but I'd only consider the original VN to be essential anime shit

Initially you have 最果てのイマ, C+C and 家族計画 which are must reads in Japanese (I recommend you the original version of the latter, as it's one of those cases where the remake isn't worth it).
Everything by Qruppo is also a very good recommendation (Nukitashi 1 is a bit mid, but works quite well as an introduction).
If you like nakiges Sakumoyu is another great recommendation. My caveat here is that the text can be very over the top repetitive, but as the hours go by it has its charm (fkn 小さなちいささな).
俺たちに翼はない is jackson's masterpiece and is probably the best charage ever.
相州戦神館學園 (八命陣 and 万仙陣) if you want really good chuuni shit. シルヴァリオ also has its moments, but it doesn't have the same level of solidity as something written by fucking Masada.
Speaking of light, 群青の空を越えて is another very good recommendation.
Phantom of Inferno is another case where translation does not exist. Here the problem is that Integration has some compatibility problems with newer editions of Windows (There is a bug when you have to select a weapon). As a last resort you could read the remake, but the censorship really ruins the story.
Lucle shit are also other titles to consider (冥契のルペルカリア、水葬銀貨のイストリア).
アカイイト is another one that I like a lot.
It would be much easier if I knew your preferences, but I think those are good general recommendations.

Little Busters is fun. Off topic, but I do wish I weren't a massive keyfag. It's kind of lonely even though I know so many people who like anime. It's hard to find someone who's even willing to watch the anime adaptation, so key/visual novels will always be something I enjoy by myself while friends talk about the latest shonen

I played Chaos;Child when it was released in the west few years ago. After that I was randomly spoiler that (Chaos;Head spoiler) the main character psychiatrist is the killer in the first game
Now I read that the prequel Chaos;Head receives official translation. Do you think it is still worth playing with all what I know from the sequel and spoiler mentioned above, or will this knowledge ruin all the fun and surprise from the visual novel?
