Though I read neither the first nor the second's contents.
4) If you actually look for them on Pixiv—I have, and I also made several of my own as well, although I neglected posting screenshots of them on Pixiv—it's rather obvious only a few 3D models draw their inspiration from that. There are many more ke-ta, the de facto "king of tasteful Touhou erotica," imitators.

Yeah I didn't count PC98 in my assessment. Only cannon we have to go on is PoFV dialogue and what is written about her in PMiSS and SCoOW. If at all possible, drop these ideas immediately. That viewpoint is nearly indefensible. None of what I say that seems like it argues to the contrary has any relevance to anything whatsoever, it is the damage control of irredeemable garbage, it is a baby clothing its favorite toy in royal dress, it is laughable. ZUN was a young man, effectively still a child like everyone else on the planet, he thought of something cute, he got sentimentally attached to it for a while, then he decided to forget about it and all of his earlier characters and completely aimless nothings, and tried to do something more worthwhile. Windows Yuuka is literally just a relapse, the horribly painful bite of nostalgia, practically demonic, after that disgusting mistake he made sure never to dig her up again. Even if we leave aside my acerbic tone the rough outline, that Yuuka was just ZUN's favorite of his childhood attachments, is still the most plausible explanation with the least amount of unnecessary outside connections and tenuous theories.

But you see that exact thing got me into it at first, it's not even a bad avenue to look through and her themes and their extensive remixes are some of the only Yuuka-related material that haven't given me the equivalent of (negative) breakdowns over the years. The music is more of what makes Yuuka than her dialogues or appearance honestly. Still barely matters. Problem there is that the whole thing would take a month or two at minimum and the newest version of the whole series is untranslated. Would be a very long wait.

Real problems only come about when one starts to insist on specific interpretations and specific ideas to the exclusion of all else. Never really felt that way honestly, the games stand on their own in my opinion. You are meant to play them, master them, enjoy the music, look at one of his sprites and go "oh she's cute" and nothing more really. I suppose he has all his writings and what not, but despite the sheer quantity of it, its no less helpful and his writing quality leaves a lot to be desired. The setting was nothing more than ZUN adding things he was into at the time, just like how if I wanted to make my own doujin game, I'd probably fill it with my favorite things too, or at least things that are very similar to it. It evolved into some bizarre mix of xianxia and slice of life, but that's far past yuuka's era and honestly its so different I wouldn't even compare it.
I'm sure Yuuka comes from somewhere too, every other pc98 character pretty much does. Though it's certainly something obscure, deep within the bowels of 90's otaku culture. Until we find another green haired girl in plaid we'll never know.

It's understandable, depends on how you came into it and so on. If you look at Touhou as the whole 'phenomenon' that was constructed over and around it as effectively being crucial to the series' identity (which by now it definitely is), then boundaries get fuzzy, canon and non-canon start intermingling, it becomes difficult or impossible to disassociate an image of a character from their fandom treatments and so on. The games absolutely stand on their own, and they undoubtedly had some alluring 'mystique' to them that allowed the fanbase to explode in the first place. Left with just the games, however, you would have shooters with decent difficulty, unique music and an interesting but haphazardly thrown-together setting. There is no shortage of STGs with just about all of this.

He's mostly on the russian imageboards. Never gone there but from what I've heard it makes /jp/ look rather tame. As for the other girls thing, as far as I understand it he enjoys Yuuka as both a brutal dominatrix, as well as an angelic, down to earth vanilla wife with traditional leanings. I have a firm good idea of a girl who fits this to a tee, and ironically she's russian too.

Surprisingly little actually. ZUN's music is unparalleled, it's beyond definition, it's not limited by genre and it feels like pure utter magic itself. I think the best exemplification of this is the entirety of the '98-'03 era, stuff like Faint inanimate dream, necrofantasia, charming domination, maid and the pocketwatch of blood, doll maker of bucharesti, shanghai alice, dichromatic butterfly, magical girl's crusade, the list goes on, all absolutely incredible and extremely unique.
His aesthetics are also gorgeous in a very high-brow child's fingerpaint sort of way, and the way the stage backgrounds in games like PCB in LLS complement the music so well visually just makes it all the better.
The gameplay I will concede is something he took a fair amount of time to really polish, but EoSD is without a doubt a high point of the genre, even CAVE experts like Gus who have dedicated themselves to pursuing world records in one of the hardest category there is has to concede that ZUN's pattern designs in that game are absolutely brilliant.
Say what you will about his uhh, novel approach to character and world building but when it comes to music and game design he is in a category of his own. And not just is the gameplay enjoyable, it is also beautiful, a form of art to itself.

All I have to say I have my own Yuuka that I love. Other people's Yuuka are probably different and that's fine. Love your own Yuuka.

I was probably a little reductionistic when I said there are plenty like it. Sure, the vast majority of big name and even lesser known STGs have great soundtracks but few people would deny that Touhou's OST is quite unique. Beyond definition might be a little much but it does show a combination of variety and consistency that's hard to find elsewhere. Of course I absolutely agree about the cohesion between the songs, the backgrounds, the stage progression and so on, it's not exclusive to mainline Touhou anymore (Eschatos comes to mind, and even fangames like Ikusan take that same premise and absolutely run with it) but it might be the first time someone really tried to tie all the elements together. That's probably why my idea of Touhou in general carried over this idea of taking everything into account, since that stuck out to me.

I've always found it really interested because the breasts are in the upper echelon of all her tit sizes but in spite of that the tits aren't really the focus of the image and they're just sort of there, it's about something else entirely.
