Touhou killed /a/ and then /jp/, nearly every thread is an endless cycle of back-and-forth bitching over which character looks the best and/or an imagedump, there is rarely any actual discussion. This is because there is nothing to actually discuss about the entire fandom whatsoever; it's a doujin shmup series that is popular with otaku and the weeaboo otaku-wanabees.
At least half the faggots that spam the Internet with this shit have never even played the games, and I doubt that most of them have beaten the games on lunatic.
Touhou is the embodiment of everything wrong with weeaboos and it's presence at best stifles and at worst completely kills any chance of other discussion. Besides the TM power-level threads (which are pretty bad, but leagues above the Touhou shit) it's extremely difficult to talk about anything on this board.

I don't really see the problems with having multiple discussion threads at the same time. If it was regulated to one thread, it would just turn into a fan circlejerk similar to Umineko or Raildex threads.

There is no discussion because there is nothing to discuss.

Because /jp/ simply does not have all that much content to discuss. It was made for all the stuff that was kicked out of /a/, i.e. Touhou, VNs, figs, etc. and that's what it's been used for ever since. No one wants to expand on other potential topics affiliated with 'Japan/General' because very few people are actually interested. The idolfags carved their way into /jp/, but other than that nothing new ever lasts. Not that the idolfag threads are all that great either to be honest, they all look like imagedumps to me with little to no discussion. In any case, Touhou and VNs are the foundations of /jp/, if you took it away there'd be very little left. There's nothing to be done.

I don't understand how the /jp/ threads differ from each other so much that they can't all be in one super thread. The /bun/ faggots do it.

But that doesn't count because the rest are deleted and the board is dead.

It was made because faggots couldn't keep their shit threads condensed, spamming Touhou in every other thread on /a/ almost constantly until moot was forced to open a this shithole to cope with it.
Not wanting to seem like he'd caved in to Touhou faggotry by creating an entire board for it, he also decided to shift the perfectly fine and acceptable VN threads, idol threads and a few other things under pretence of 'making /a/ just anime and manga, like it used to be (only it never was in the first place)'.
