I started playing it recently too (2y). It's pretty funny as long as you try to have fun.
I know how hard the games are, hence I'm taking it easy and accepting losses, taking every advantages possible to complete the games, most at normal mode and sometimes at hard mode. These were some tips I got from experienced players.

Perhaps lunatic and extra stages are not that fun, because they are very stressful, needing thousands tries to complete, and yet memorization of routes. Therefore I'm having trouble at extra stages.

They're also addictive game, sometimes I have dreams where I'm dodging the bullets other times I see the bullets burned at my eyes long after I have stopped playing.

Finally, what I can say until now is "it's worth it", because you can see how beautiful the games are, how creative the bullet patterns are, how cool the songs are, it all knowing this hard work was made by a single man with barely any support.

These were my thoughts as a beginner.

No. Most 2hu games are just shovelware shat out by one man's drunken delusions. Don't get me wrong you do stumble upon gemstones like IN and HSIFS, but you're better off playing cave shooters like dondonpachie
