My current plan is to throw a couple runs first and if I don't get it by tomorrow I'll try my luck at E5. And maybe build an STF once all locks are cleared after E6 is cleared.
Though not needing to click through more nodes is appealing too, if I do need to come back to farm, still clearing anyway.

it's honestly just too fast and keeps high speed easily, 6x0.50cals is also really easy to shoot and good at attacking soft-skinned jap aircraft, even their bombers were pretty soft - many planes lacking self-sealing fuel tanks, americans basically would say that "if it's burning, it's dead" when it comes to jap aircraft.
Hellcat is hard to fight against in a zero, your best bet is having the same or higher altitude, otherwise you have to play defensively and dodge the oncoming attacks, zero has wonderful cockpit visibility so it can actually do that but counterattacking is difficult. You basically have to dodge the gunfire and as the hellcat zooms away you can try to return fire which is difficult - the time window is rather small and the cannons don't have enough velocity to be easy to use past 400 meters.
Once the hellcat becomes the main airplane and americans deploy non-autistic training along with actual good radios, something zeroes never had aside from barely working equipment - you can check out what Saburo Sakai wrote about it, at one point he sawed off the antenna as he considered it dead weight.

I don't think I have the LBAS to get AD and therefore AS for the fleet at E5H.
Should I just send 2 AI LBAS then? Or if I stack the first base with fighters too, I'm currently running 1st base bombers and 2nd base fighters, I'll somehow magically manage to get AD for the 2nd base? Though from what I understand the type of planes doesn't actually matter for shootdown, and only air power matters.

Hotels are reused on E5 because of the way ship locks are applied there.
Just remember this: Your whole fleet must have the E3 orange-ish tag first before you can sortie on E5 otherwise it'll be tagged with E5 yellow and now you cannot sortie a mixed tag fleet.
