I'm still kind of salty about Utawarerumono remake and sequels. I love the original eroge. It has brisk pace, fun characters and the strategy gameplay part feels like a nice touch, fine change of pace but easy enough not to halt progress through the plot. But with the sequels they revamped the gameplay part to a full-blown strategy kind of like modern Fire Emblem and made it a slog. Stats, weapons, long-winded animations. What was kind of mindless but nice change of pace in the eroge now just drags the story down, it's still pispoor easy but so incredibly slow. At least for me, though. I do realize many people like it.

It's basically the same except for the ero (the ero scenes in Utaware are quite vanilla and really short, I quite like them, especially since all of them are canonical as the society system in the plot is structured as harem with one main wife and the rest are concubines/second wives) and the gameplay part is different.

Doesn't really matter which one you read. Might as well try the original version if the remake isn't working for you. You can even patch voices into the original PC version fromDHM108 the PS2 port.

I thought about finally getting in liar-soft and started from Celenaria but couldn't stand it for more than a few hours, the story feels like it was written for 5 years olds with caricature characters. Are the rest of this beautiful series any better or this studio is just not for me?

I've only played Celenaria and Inganock so far, but the latter is much much better. Celenaria has some interesting background lore which I felt was never utilized properly in the actual plot, especially with its rushed ending and unresolved plot threads. Whereas Inganock is fun and unique just by the virtue of its setting being "hey what if we made cyberpunk but powered by magic instead of technology", carried by more enjoyable characters. I'm not sure how much importance Celenaria plays for the rest of the series, but Inganock does have some vague small references and tidbits linking them together, some of which aren't really even mentioned in the game but the official website and the gaiden stories.

Which reminds me holy shit, I really should get back to reading the rest. But yeah, Celenaria never really got "good" for me, and if you play it I'd also suggest to ignore the optional busywork stuff in the game portion since it only serves to unlock concept art rather than plot.
