I would say it took me about 20 hours total. Mind you, I did not understand GIMP or Sony Vegas before creating the video-- I had to experiment extensively.
I had an inefficient workflow with editing the portraits; in the beginning my method was like this: "finish" the portrait, dupe the base, cut the head, move it, fill in the blank space left behind. I realized this was a horrible way of approaching it about 2/3rds through. Promptly, I changed my flow to: dupe the base, cut out the head, complete the body, move the head around.
Drawing expressions and tilts for Reimu + Marisa took another few hours on top of that.
If I had to remake the video, I could probably do it in half the time.
Here's a Mokou edit I made while making the video:

It's based on an old Japanese tale. She tricked the dolphins to align up and used them as jump pads to get to an island, so they ripped off her clothes, beat her up, and presumably raped her (or forced her to give them hand jobs). That monster that shows up is like a police officer who ask the rape victim, "show me on the corndog what they made you do". He then gives her a towel and leaves.

That's what she gets for being a trifling little pissant.

Being a gatekeeper on /jp/ has to be one of the most futile jobs on earth. This board is more or less a catch all for all things that didn't fit into old /a/. So you got the 3D idols, vtubers, JAVs, /trv/ guys, and so many others. If we're being honest /jp/ is basically Japan/otaku version of /b/, so trying to enforce board culture is mostly futile.

The best advice is to find the fun. People always recommend grinding anatomy, perspective, and reading Vilppu/Loomis but this approach is too hard so the budding artist gives up and ends up having to pay off their overpriced tuition at a strip club. Screw all of that and just have fun. Also, shamelessly plug your drawings no matter how shitty they are. Artist are fueled by attention they can't go months of isolation like us indie game devs.

The advice they give for programmers is terrible. They tell people to read that meme book SICP. It's a decent undergrad book but it contains too much arcane mathematics that can only be understood by sophomore/senior undergrads.

That counts as attention seeking, but I'm not hating on it. I encourage artist to seek attention/criticism. It's a good motivator. I don't think artistic people are wired like programmers who tend to be on the more introverted side. There are exceptions of course.

Try grinding from 6am to 11pm for years and that is more or less the life of an indie dev. I hardly showered and my skin got pale from the lack of sunlight but that's the life I signed up for. Not everyone is about that life.

I guess that's true. Do programmers have anything like pixiv where they can upload simple programs and let others correct/comment on it? I know there's StackExchange for multitudes of programming questions
How the hell do you programmers get feedbacks and improve/optimize your codes, then?
Say, you could very well own 10+ of the best programming books that can solve every programming trouble there is with clear examples, but you still have to look up for that specific cases and usage in that 10+ books
Meanwhile, someone else who happens to have done that before could answer within minutes/hours, you see where I'm getting at?

We have stackoverflow for asking for help, but this is typically only used at work. And we have github for sharing our code. But most indie devs don't publish their work because they don't want to give away years of work for free.

If you don't use an engine like Unity you have no chance of making a game. With that said you should try to make your own engine just for learning purposes. Read up on Entity Component System architecture. It's super easy to learn and it makes your game more efficient and maintainable. Stay away from object-orientated (inheritance) stuff. We have enough evidence to conclude it does more harm than good.

From my personal experience screenless tablets are awful if you're learning how to draw. Drawing is already extremely hard and learning how to use a screenless tablet just adds to the difficulty. >> No.41205120

the only reason why screenless tablets are hard to learn is if you have literally never ever put more than 5min drawing anything at all in your life, the lack of muscle memory is what makes hard to tell when theres a disparity between the hardware and your hand skills , so if that's the case you can screw yourself for some small-big period of time not lnowing if its you or the tablet causing problems, this can be avoided by just drawing at least 1h on paper and that's it. you can get used to draw within 30min if you make the active area on your tablet be the same size of your workable area in your monitor, otherwise in can take about 2 weeks to a month depending on how much is the differences between the active/workable areas and much time you draw, for this reason is a must to pick a big tablet if you can.

Personally, I prefer a screenless tablet. It promotes better posture and ergonomics with the right setup and you don't have to fight your hand always being in the way when you draw. The downside is that there's a sharper learning curve for learning and the difference is negligible to some people. Some swear by screenless, others by screen. Ultimately it's a preference thing.

My apologies.

There's no money in drawing period, even with the furry community. Every artistic niche is too saturated, and there are always artists playing the game with more experience and a more established reputation. There is also the issue of AI, but that's a whole another discussion. Anyone who wants to make money nowadays should consider any other trade. Let drawing be for people who enjoy it.

Speaking as a professional cunning linguist, wew, lad, what a take. You could argue that he just wanted to become "more" fluent, but I could also retort with learning to draw being as easy as picking up a drawing utensil and leaving marks with it upon a canvas.
Coding is definitely the easiest though.

Coding is the only one out of those that have a high chance of changing your life financially. There is no money in art, piano, or speaking Japanese because there's already too much people with those abilities. Coding is also the easiest to get into so is this even a question.

Drawing is much harder than learning a new language, there's so many variables you need to master like coloring, shading, perspective, composition etc. while you can easily grind your new language's grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure and get the same result every single time.

As someone who got into digital drawing recently i had that issue as well. It really feels like there is disconnect betwen your hand movement and what happens on screen. But you just need to force yourself to draw to get rid of it. I think it took me about 2 months to get fully used to it.
But once it clicks with you it feels really natural.

>> No.41212611

>>41212180
Well, like I forewarned, the same applies to "mastering" a language, and that may well take far more time than mastering the art of painting, just as becoming fluent in a language will take more time than learning to draw decently. In my work I've seen dozens too many educated philologists not knowing their native language well enough, let alone those they tried to translate from. Decades after having learnt the first word of each I still occasionally learn something new about both my native language and English. Some languages are easier to learn than others, and some benefit from knowing those that should be unrelated to their formation (Japanese grammar is easier to learn when you know English)—exactly like art styles, but it's easier to draw than to command a language at the same level, and I'm saying this despite having an innate talent for languages and no hope of ever becoming a popular artist.

What do you guys think about bullets leaving paint trails? I plan on adding a color based collision system similar to Ikaruga. It will also be able to detect pixels from drawings, so the player will have to dodge art and music. So imagine the enemies leaving rainbow trails and the "Rainbow Road" theme from Mario Kart playing in the background. If Reimu has the color red she'll be able to travel on the red part of the rainbow.

Not the guy you're talking to but I don't think people should have to put that in their post. It's kind of implied that if you post your art in an OC thread that you're looking for some attention, criticism, or feedback. People in this thread are not responding to each other. And don't point to any examples cause I'm pretty sure whatever post you link to will be mine cause I was the only one responding.

now everytime someone talks shit to these people they retort by bringing up this "AI will replace artists" thing. they fell for the latest trend so hard because the machine can do flashy stuff, and because their brains are shortsighted they believe that flashy stuff is the same as a high quality art made by human hands.
I also believe this people are the reason why there are so many newcomer artists who don't actually art and are just there because of the money, the demand for shiny pictures is high and as long as anyone could provide them these people will consume it.

>That thing in 30 years is going to be several magnitudes more better at its job.
at doing what? better hands?
Do I need to remind you that AI only mimics human behavior, it needs feedback based on things humans have made. Art and creations are the result of a human thought, and humans like thoughts made by other humans, thats why certain songs are so popular and catchy, why some pieces of art are so legendary they transcend (this is key) generations, why some fantasy stories are told multiple times, and many more things.
Your favorite mangaka/artist has a defined style, this style is like a mold in which they put elements in it and they make something, when an AI generates an image trying to emulate that style it will only get the visual part of it, like the brush they normally use, the thickness of the lines, the way they do eyes/faces/arms etc, but the result will make you wonder "this doesn't feel like something this artists would do" because it is indeed missing out the "reason" why those elements are there
AI cannot replace artists, they lack the ability to transcend and have a reason to do something, they just try the their best to provide a result based on a request.
A very easy example with pic related, people who lack the vision to transcend art see pic related and think "important war guy looking epic in a rearing white horse", they think that if they write these phrase on the AI command the exact image will be made, or something with the same weight as this, but no, you will get this "important war guy looking epic in a rearing white horse",

The same could be said of humans. We need to get our inspiration from existing artist. Machine learning is really just trying to mimic what we humans do, but in a more efficient way. Your job will be safe in your life time but it's only a matter of time before it puts artist out of work.

please refer back to my post>>41234236, because I already explained the meaning of elements inside a creation. What makes human art so appealing to us is not the elements by themselves, it's how they are arranged, that is the point of making art, music, literature, and thats why we as humans like other humans works, because we are attracted to the way they bend life and illusions, AI can only mimic the elements, and puts them into a canvas with no further meaning other than what the algorithm requested based on millions of works as references (like the example I made with Napoleon's painting) Humans use references for inspiration and guidence yes, but we do so to do our own thing because we want to give a reason to those elements in a finished work.

I'm considering trying out AABB collision and replacing circular collision with tiny rectangles.

OP here. If someone makes a new OC thread make sure you use the correct format. I've made the last 3 OC threads, but I think I'll stop here. I didn't like what I saw in this thread. There wasn't enough interaction. I was doing the majority of responses to post. The artist, musicians, writers, and programmers won't be encouraged to post OC if their post gets ignored, so next time try to do a better job at responding. The whole purpose of OC threads is discussing the OC but we spent most of the time doing meta board stuff. This thread explained to me why we stopped making these OC threads.

>Stuff like "nice" or "good job" do very little besides eat up post count and bring it closer to bump limit.
This is completely wrong. If you genuinely appreciate someone's art you should let them know. Why are you being so scared of the bump limit. You act as if you're the server admin trying to save bandwidth. We can make an infinite amount of new threads and we have archive for old threads.

Would you prefer if all OC threads were just imagedumps and everyone silently appreciated each other's work. That's making a lot of assumptions that people actually care about your art and that your post is being seen. I think pixiv is what you're looking for anon. Imageboards are for discussions about images, not for "appreciating in the shadows".

most people here (me included) are pretty autistic and you can already imagine how we are gonna reply/praise something out of obligation

it's a balance
If you care, you let them know
if you don't, ignore it

Some kinda do. Like me, who is suffering from both demotivation and a set of health issues that make me physically unable to work for more than a few hours at a time.

You don't have to praise stuff out of obligation if you think something is not worthy of attention then ignore it.

People not responding to stuff they like sounds like the real autism. Why do they care so much about the bump limit. Just make a new thread. Or repost your OC in the new thread. A bump limit is irrelevant.

We're at bump limit on page 10 and 2 post from being archived. It wasn't necessary at this time but that Hina to start the thread was super necessary. She's my new waifu.
