Holy shit bro you’re going to be in heaven. Like your body literally isn’t ready.
Rows and rows of fresh delicious onigiri of various flavors at every convenience store.
I can’t tell you how many times my breakfast has been onigiri and a can of coffee on a train platform. Which I’ve been told many times is really weird. As in apparently native Japanese think coffee/onigiri is a weird ass combo.

Left: “spilling seafood donburi”. Normally looks overflowing but was ordered with light rice. Has egg, shrimp, tuna, salmon, crab, roe, eel, and some veggies.

Middle-left: shima sushi - the fish is marinated in onions sauce and this place tops it with a bit of that karashi hot mustard

Middle-right: menu name is sort of “luxurious sushi”. Green onion, fatty tuna, salmon eggs, sea urchin, and topped with “sea grapes”.

Right: hadn’t finished the first sea grapes yet.

And yeah I had been envious of people who made it a lot sooner but in the end I was glad my first trip there wasn’t constrained by being a broke ass student, or even worse, going on some guided trip like some of my classmates did in college (as did my younger brother).
I mean it’s not like it’s that or nothing, and I was glad to be able to do/try/see/eat the things I wanted to (within reason) and have the freedom/budget to do so.

Yup, they are quite literally that. You can cut a hotdog a certain way, and the “legs” will curl up like that when you cook it.
Japan friggin loves “wieners” (I get corrected when I call them hotdogs). But they’re almost always pork, and taste much more like a brat than a typical American hotdog. The casing always “snaps” too.
Heck I’ve even seen them served on top of scrambled eggs and advertised as “American style breakfast”.

Moving there is another matter, but you're free to go any time and you don't need a lot of money to do it. In fact, I think a big issue a lot of japanophile anons have is this mental barrier that prevents them from getting over it and just doing it.

This is, quite literally, the finest piece of engrish-apparel I’ve ever seen in Japan.
It’s not just glorious because of the wall of text, but also because the name of the “hip streetwear” itself is “Rodeo Crowns”, which is obviously meant to be “Clowns”.
What makes it even better is that the brand has been around for a while, and now often incorporates a crown (like an actual royal crown) into their logos/branding.
Which seems to indicate they became aware of the “mistake” in their brand name, and decided to just go full “lol nah we did that on purpose.”

Yes. That was pre-coof. It will soon be like that again.
They’re easy to avoid if you mostly go to smaller shops in alleys and whatnot, and you can avoid them entirely if you speak enough Japanese to stick to establishments that don’t have any English signs or English-speaking staff.
You can also avoid many of them just by going to Osaka. Here’s Dotonbori within a few weeks of when I took that Akiba pic. Yeah there will be a noticeable amount of them in places like Dotonbori, but there will *always* be significantly fewer western tourists in Osaka. Though there will often be *more* Korean/Chinese tourists there than in Tokyo. They come to Osaka to shop for Japanese goods cheaper than they can get in China/Korea.

your weird notion of “cultural fetishism” is, well, weird. I have a gay friend who complains about obnoxious faggots because he can’t stand their behavior, not because he likes to imagine he’s straight.

Yeah had high expectations of the シークヮーサー only to leave me with a really nasty aftertaste. Haven't tried Master's Dream, but I've only heard good things about it. Damn, why they gotta be so small though?

Friend, I don’t know how to describe it without sounding like I’m flat-out shilling or gushing about it.
But it’s so rich and so complex, without any “heaviness”.
It’s like a beer equivalent of A5 or foie gras. You don’t want to drink a ton of it, you want to savor every bit.
That’s why it’s so damn expensive. At my local store, it’s far more than any import beer, which is weird for a Japanese domestic.
But apparently Suntory literally had their best brewmasters come up with this beer, and told them “fuck ingredient costs, use whatever is best”, and even developed a special brewing process they only use for this one product.
Just buy a can and try it. If you don’t think it’s great, you can kick me in the nuts.
