Until you've beaten all existing story content you definitely spend more time reading compared to playing. Once you are caught up and you just log in for dailies and to grind out the event shop it starts to even out, but it's not necessary to do them all the time. Story release is quite unpredictable but they drop in large chunks that take a decent amount of time to clear.
Without the story you get 1 story event (2-3 hours of reading) + 2-3 character events that are like 5~10 minutes of content per month.

Maybe a long shot but does anyone have the dl version of Ricotte ～アルペンブルの歌姫～?

I've downloaded Ricotte more than 5 times over the years from different sources and it's always the 2003 release that I can't install because it's "not supported". I tried copying the files from both images to a folder but it doesn't install or start. I installed the archived 1.03 patch but got errors about files not being found. Those were in the module folder so I copied them to the root folder and got a new error about vorbis.acm and "bad image".
The download comes with a NoCD but it gives a CRC mismatch error.
I also tried the alpharom method from https://erogamescape.dyndns.org/~ap2/ero/toukei_kaiseki/game_support_platform.php?game=3008 but get an error because the game was not installed.

My only hope is the dl version that should be compatible with OS after XP but I can't find any downloads. Is it on AB?

I didn't put the patch exe in the installation folder so when I clicked the exe it made a new folder with the patch files. You can click the updater and it'll update where it's installed but that overrides the ricotte.exe = cracked exe.

If it didn't do that for you then use the backup exe and crack it again. Maybe I'm misremembering something, I fucked around so much with the files.

either u can look for a similar byte pattern around the patched location in the hex dump (so something like searching for 52 08 3B C3 7D in the new exe and see if u can get a match with 7D being the patched byte) or like this time i loaded them in a debugger and saw there were similar references to "RicotteRUNE14" at 00004388 and 000043A3 around the patched location (add 4 like 00404388 if u want to look at the address with a debugger) in the old exe and at 000043C0 and 004043DB in the new exe so it was easy to go from there

Step Over every call until "Insert CD" shows up, bookmark the address of a call that caused this
Close and restart the game under Cheat Engine, go to the bookmark and see if there's a conditional jump over it somewhere above the call
If you find it, patch the jump into unconditional or nop (disable) it, depending on where it would go if you had the CD
If there's none or patch doesn't help, set a breakpoint on that call and continue the game, it will stop on the call
Now Step Into the call and repeat the same for all the inner calls until "Insert CD" shows again, look at the patchable jumps there
When done, search for the same pattern of bytes around the location you patched in CE but now in the exe on the disk opened in a hex editor, then apply the same patch to the exe
(this can break the exe checksum if there's one; open the exe in 7-Zip and it will tell you the checksum: if it shows 0 then there's no checksum and no need for a fix, otherwise use whatever PE checksum fixer google gives you to correct it - this is optional though)

This is the gist of it for the simplest case (a really old game with basic CD check), although you can apply the same logic for other stuff, like patching out registry/date/locale/etc. checks

Can't get around it. The freeze seems to happen because that choice pops up a Windows confirmation window. It also freezes when declining the choice. My guess is that the game controls can't refocus after closing that window. Using the regular load from menu is the same and controls become unresponsive, so CTRL+L or right click has to be used to load saves. I tried CTRL+S and CTRL+L after the gun choice and during the intermission but it didn't work.

I doubt there's a save for after that choice and according to the walkthrough there's more of these gun choices. Well this sucks. Guess I'll delete it. Not interested in playing a web version or the 360 port that's like 9 GB.
