I just got every Touhou game, is the preferred way of playing these with fan translations?

Have an Azumanga wallpaper

>> No.4114920

If you want to read the story, sure. I just hold the skip button, myself.

>> No.4114930

Touhou has a story? I thought it was just little magical girls who shoot magic at each other because they have nothing better to do.

If you can read Japanese fluently, there's not much need to bother. Translations are never perfect.

If you can't, why not? Some of the dialogue is actually pretty fun, and you're not going to see the endings online very often.

>> No.4114937

Well, uh, can't wait to play them. Thanks for the reassurance that nobody gives a fucklewit about the story.

Nice name, tripbro.

Uh, I'll be getting the fan translations from Gensokyo.org? How's that? and uh, are the PC98 ones worth playing at all?

More like tripmorons

PC-98 is pretty good. The earliest ones don't have as good music, though.

They're the only ones worth playing.

yeah, except most kiddies ignore them because they can't handle 8-bit graphics

One the contrary, I be lovin' that shit nigga. But do fan translations exist for all of them? That would be nifty. Anyway I'll be trying to play them all through.

The PC-98 games are alright. It's even better if you like retro gaming and retro music.
Oh, and be prepared to raeg at HRtP because that game's just unfair.

Only the first one has a translation, and it's a pain to install, so I never did it. It doesn't even have any dialogue to begin with.

PC-98 are translated, but not patched.

Speaking of PC-98 music:

I'm behind a uni firewall though, so it may be difficult to connect for a bit. Speed should pick up soon though.

Alright well I'll try playing and enjoying all dees gaems, /jp/, you guys are some real A-grade bros. Thanks for all the help.

I've never seen translations for the PC-98 ones. Gensokyo.org did EoSD, PCB, MoF, SA, and UFO. Some other dude did IN, and another did PoFV. Those two are vastly inferior quality - I wouldn't even bother with PoFV if I were you.

Recently, however, there was a bit of an uproar because a bunch of people made an Endings wiki using the translations from Gensokyo without their permission. There's a fair chance that we're gonna be stuck with half-assed one-man projects from now on because of it.

Don't play on easy mode. It'll just prolong the time it'll take to get good at them. Unless you don't actually care about ever unlocking extra stages and getting good ends.

Sorry, I meant "I wouldn't bother with the translation."

The multiplayer is indeed awesome, I've actually started/participated in a couple of the threads that have popped up in recent days.

The Touhou fan translations are fucking horrible. At least I assume the translations on touhouwiki are the ones used in the patches? They're shit, just so you japanese-impaired gentlemen know.

>There's a fair chance that we're gonna be stuck with half-assed one-man projects from now on because of it.

I haven't been around much, but I haven't heard anything about it, and I certainly wouldn't not do translations because of it. Unless the data format changed enough to make using the existing repacking tools impossible, I wouldn't worry.

Most of us do this because we like Touhou and enjoy the work that goes into patching the games. What you mentioned above, therefore, is completely unrelated.

LLS is actually a decent game to start with.

How so?

I thought gensokyo.org didn't use the translations from touhou wiki...

Not all, but some of the touhou wiki translations that I read made me cringe, and I'm only JLPT 3.
