It's the same words. It's better to modify the question format to whatever feels natural to you. Never used pictures in mine, they're just a distraction. Stopped using audio somewhere along the way, too, because listening to music while doing reps was just more comfortable.

The card format is completely irrelevant. What matters most is your will to learn. I like learning a lot, it tickles my brain the right way. When you like doing something, it doesn't feel like a chore. When doing reps is fun, you naturally keep adding cards at a faster pace.

I'm currently doing five.
Ten or more and I'll be stuck in review hell for over an hour every day.
You wouldn't think so few cards would take that long, but it adds up after a few months.

I'm probably also just not as good at memorization as some others.
I don't know how some people do thirty cards daily without shittons of free time.

anon each card should take i dunno, 20 seconds at the very worst, if you are taking really long just fail them, you get naturally A LOT faster over time, there's no shame in failing them if you don't recall them
they aren't puzzles you should spend minutes on
hell someone is gonna @me and say "20 seconds is ridiculous" and i sorta agree, but it sounds like you are taking even longer than that
its an easy question, do you remember this words reading? yes, or no, maybe take a few seconds on tip of the tongue ones now and then but you are taking maybe a bit too long
you are reading/doing stuff other than cards too, right? that's gonna give you higher returns and speed than the cards themselves

I've been learning for about 5 months now and when doing Tango and other decks have not been reading out loud stuff like words with kanji unless its super easy and I know it. How fucked am I, or is this okay as long as I get the meaning and immersion will just patch this up as I go? I didn't focus on this in the beginning since reading is my goal, I don't give a shit about speaking, but find it annoying when I see a word I would know in kanji form written in its furigana.

I think I've figured out the specificities of joutai compared to the rest already though, it being more specific to the state of a person/their appearance. meanwhile joukyou seems to be the most versatile in its applications and can be used broadly for "the way things are going" or "this wacky scenario"

Personally I liked the Tatsumoto recomends way better, the transition deck there is great to start out, the TSC is no meme, is so much better for getting used to derive context and grammar cues. And it also helps a lot most of the starting words are really common use and get repeated a lot.
I then also started with the 6k "leveled" one, which is pretty much similar vocab but in a different form, phrases, font, and just act as a support for further familiarizing stuff.

the moment its time for review I forgot its meaning

I dont see how anyone can effectively learn from it. Add to that that seemingly every set has incredibly weird and unrelated pictures/sentences.

Im not upset though, Im glad it works for some people. I just have far more success by writin the kanji and memorising them that way.

You see it the first time, shortly see it again after some minutes. Then again after a few days. Again and again and again.
Its not like a test for you to pass, all you need to do is try to remember and gather its meaning (why sentences and context actually help a lot with this).
Memory is just like that, the more you try to fetch it the more it becomes internalized, but instead of hammering it down with repetition in one sitting, you create internal memory that is rooted over time.
This is a lot more effective and less tiring than lets say hammering down a few kanji a day and failing completely to remember a couple of weeks later. And also because you yank through a lot more kanji and words than you would through a conventional method.

I've been reading toki wo kakeru shoujo and so far it's been a great experience. For the most part it's easy to understand and my reading speed has gotten a bit faster. The only thing I dislike it's that it uses kana for a lot of words that I know in kanji and that kinda threws me off.

Yeah I think you're just using a shit deck... I get what you're saying too, if you're just getting random words and not much meaning context for them it makes it way harder to create a root for memory.
And I started sort of doing like you to hammer down better each kanji. But I quickly switched to sentence cards and they're miles better to get used to stuff. So I would recommend trying out a different deck than just raw kanji.
Either way, we're not expected to just get stuff right from the get go, but bringing back some meaning even if you don't remember the pronunciation. Or getting mixed up with similar looking kanji like 人犬本大.
Its all part of the process

How the fuck do I learn kanji when I don’t know every vocabulary word out there?

Learning the kanji readings is useful because I can guess (50/50) how to read a word. For example, 良好。Knowing the 音読み vs 訓読み of kanji will help sometimes: りょうこう。

Otherwise, I don’t know how.
